We’re scheduled to leave for vacation on Oct 3. We’re getting on that plane no matter what so they better fix this stupid mess. Or, at least do what’s typical- let it limp along like a wounded animal.

Why would you lot go on vacation in the event of a shutdown?

Technically leave is cancelled in the event of a shutdown but a decent supervisor will put you on furloughed status so you can take a planned trip.

I just did two posts ago. In theory if you are exempt you are responsible for critical functions to ensure continuity of operations. While the reality is different thats the theory is that if you are exempt and need to work you cannot take vacation. The reality is a good supervisor will put you in furlough status to not mess up your plans.

100% correct, but if you are not exempt your leave is canceled in the sense you are not charged vacation time. Sometimes people confuse the two types of cancelation.

In the past have been told that the first day back from shutdown is mandatory (no leave) but I have no idea if that's true and I don't see how it's enforceable given people get sick or have appointments.

Dems better not swoop in to keep it running. Let it close and let MAGA deal with it. Trump people control WH, House, Senate, SC. They should get cracking on the making America great stuff, cause so far they are just breaking things and making them much worse than they found them. They need to own it and their supporters need to feel it.

I'm certain that even if there is no funding, Trump will keep the government running. Everyone will be declared essential (because truthfully we all are) and so nothing changes.

yes. i think this is the play here if the shutdown happens. the powers that be make everyone essential and we all keep working, even though the gov isnt funded. my hope is that congress figures it out before folks start missing paychecks.

We bought plane tickets and made hotel reservations months ago. Why else?
