White is the dominant majority at nearly all schools. It’s funny how the mediocre white folks are coming out of the woodwork. No pretense that they can compete anymore so just retreat. BTW, UVA is 31% Asian…also continuing to rise. |
WTAF? |
The darling of this thread, Penn, had 34% admission rate in the 90s. Just like Vanderbilt |
DC got one of the Vanderbilt full tuition scholarships, but turned it down for HYP (got into all HYP). |
Anyone who sends a kid to a Tennessee in this political climate is a sucky parent especially a dd |
That is your viewpoint. Others think politically active college students is a good thing. Many esteemed scholars now believe that Israel is conducting genocide in Gaza so the college protesters were prescient and more aware than the general public. |
Well said. I agree completely |
Exactly. That nutso person is completely exaggerating. My kid is applying to college right now and none of his friends are talking about Vandy. It’s a fine school but there are many other good schools as well. Not sure what the agenda is for some of these Vanderbilt boosters. It is very strange |
This past cycle is the first year some of the top 20s reverted to test-required But Vanderbilt has had a <10% and declining admission rate for years. What was the secret sauce in the past several years? It wasn't distinguishable for being TO. Hm. |
I would have picked Dartmouth over Vanderbilt without any question. My kids would have too as they loved their visit to Dartmouth |
You mean 'compete' by posting a 1600 superscore and a couple of "national" EC accolades that were purchased by your dad in Seoul and perfected over a period of 15 years? Sure. Turns out there are myriad other important factors for winning the long game, and the Harvard lawsuit document dump put those out there on display for the world to see. |
Too funny. Turns out getting rid of affirmative action didn't help the white boys go party at vandy like they thought it would. Should we get affirmative action back for the white boys to go to vandy?? |
Is it possible that maybe, just maybe, the situation on the ground has evolved since Oct 8th 2023 when our first collegiate SJP bullhorns were praising Hamas for their clever use of hang gliders? Perhaps leading some prominent scholars to change their viewpoints as intervening events have taken place over a 2-year period? It's the Hamas Cheer Squad type that my college senior wanted to avoid when applying. Well before 10/7/23, the writing was on the wall at a number of top schools re: their illiberal environments. Those schools indeed went on to sh!t the bed after that date. |

Yet it has been acceptable for students to display the flag of Israel for decades, a country that based upon the ethnic cleansing, and, now, in Gaza and the West Bank, the mass murder and starvation of the Palestinians. |
