What is your DMV specific “sin” that would get you a scarlet letter?

My DC specific sin is that I like it here. I moved here in the early 90's and have been here ever since. I have an 8 yo and we let him run around our neighborhood with his friends from school, who all live in our neighborhood. Our neighborhood has fun block parties and our kids roam from the playground, to a friend's house, back to the playground, to another friend's house. The kids get fed along the way. They play on sports teams together. We have a WhatsApp group that allows us parents to know where the kids are. The school community is involved and productive.

That's my sin. I like DC and have found my community.

You should say, I support ethnic cleansing and the mass starvation of innocent people.

It would be a sin to sneer at calling it the DMV.

You must be a transplant.

4th generation from DC and I don’t call it the DMV and get annoyed at those who do.

+1000

No greater sign of someone being a transplant than calling the region "DMV."

How do you explain all of the people who aren’t transplants that have used it for decades?

I’ve never heard a non transplant use that term unless it’s someone under the age of 25.

Can someone explain to me why Trader Joes = DC? TJs is a California creation that is now owned by a European conglomerate.

+1. I don’t get it. It's a grocery store that's not at all unique to this area.

It's a bargain place that MC aspirational people pretend is UMC.

You took mine. Trader Joe’s is glorified convenience food but since so much of it says organic people act like it’s the best thing since sliced artisan bread.

I grew up in Pasadena where Trader Joe's started and I used to go there with my mom but an an adult I hate it because I can't get the majority of the things I need there so then I have to go to other places as well. I don't have time for that. My mom worked full-time but wasn't in an office every day and the TJ's was about 5 minutes from our house so it wasn't the main grocery store but we'd go for specialty items when she had time/we needed something.

It's even used as a slogan for most of the black radio stations. 93.9 WKYS - "The Most Hip Hop and R&B In The DMV". Majic 102.3 - "The Real Sound of the DMV". WPGC 95.5 - "The DNA of the DMV"

Actually, you should provide a history since where are you from is different than where you currently live. You can't just move somewhere and start claiming that localities cachet for yourself. It needs to be earned.
