Why? We’re not idiots, that’s why. For starters, you don’t stand around your car on a street as dark as Swann at 3 am on a Saturday night. That is insane behavior. Yea, yea, yea — I’m blaming the victim. Whatever. That victim is blaming half of you for government waste, fraud and abuse — and he isn’t discriminating either. He thinks you’re stupid. I think he’s stupid. He thinks you had it coming — I think he had it coming.

And some of us would like to live in a society where you can get in your car without being assaulted and carjacked.

But you do you.

The "they had it coming" people are pathological and morally sick. But it does explain why so many folks in DC just don't give a damn. And it's because of the cynicism and coldness of so many DC residents that a federal takeover is increasingly likely. The crime that progressives take as normal is not normal for the vast majority of human beings.

It has nothing to do with living in DC. It’s just the reality of life.

And you clearly don’t live in DC.

AKA exactly why DC needs to be federalized. The city is simply incapable of fixing itself.

This is the capital city of of supposedly the most powerful nation on earth. People shouldn’t have to live like the VC, the Taliban or some drone strike could be around every corner.

Everyone on this thread who says the city needs to be “federalized” needs to tell us whether they in fact live here yourselves. Because we know you don’t.

Stick to your lane.

Wow. You don't have young adult children, so you? And you're obviously not a young adult yourself.

As much as I warn them, this is 100% something my late teen/ early 20s kids would do. They would think nothing of it. Because, if you can remember that far back, at that stage in life you believe you're invincible.

Agree he/ they are stupid. But to say they "had it coming" shows what a horrible and out of touch person you have become, PP.

I lived not far from there are a young 20 something. I never felt invincible. I was never out after 1 am. I never went on any dark streets. I was never within 10 feet of a blind alley or anyplace else someone could grab me from after dark. I waked with purpose and paid attention to my surroundings. I did not allow anyone to get within a half block of me if they looked at all suspicious. Crowds of teens definitely suspicious.
I don’t know these people that supposedly feel invincible. Women almost never do.

Sounds like someone who’s lived here two years or less. Some of us remember the Control Board, maybe someone here is old enough to remember appointed mayors. Either option works for me.

And give us the Redskins back while they’re at it.

Unless he has armed militia roaming the streets I fail to see how DC will be safer. The militia can rape and beat people too.

Here is the MPD's statement:

https://mpdc.dc.gov/release/mpd-makes-two-arrests-swann-street-attempted-carjacking

That is not true. The police report said officers observed approximately 10 attackers.

Again, not verified. People often do a bad job of estimating things like this (the number of gunshots, the number of people present, etc.). Yes, even cops. The ultimately arrested two people. We have know idea if the other people present were attackers or onlookers at this point, and the fact that they scattered when the cops showed up is not evidence of guilt, but is to be expected.

I have seen wild speculation about the number of attackers and the nature of the attack on Twitter and would just caution people to wait and see how it unfolds. You weren't there, you don't know.

The police stated # of attackers was 10, dummy.

Wrong. Teen boy and girl were arrested.

Not wrong, read the police report. While the police were only able to arrest two, there were others there who fled quickly. About 10 in all, according to the police. Again, read the police report before commenting.

DP. The police report is vague. It states that cops saw "approximately" ten people standing around a car "and attacking" the victims. This is a vague statement. Were all ten people attacking? Were some just standing there? Were some yelling? What were they yelling (were they egging the attackers on or were they upset? We don't know, and it's actually possible the cops don't even know. They saw a group of kids, some of them were clearly attacking this guy, most of them fled when the cops showed up, and two were arrested and IDed by the victims as attackers. The police report was drafted without any investigation, just a brief ID and statement from the victims.

We don't actually know what happened.

Good grief. You people will make excuses for anything.
It was not vague when it said "a group of approximately ten juveniles surrounding the complainants' vehicle and assaulting C-1."
It did not say "approximately two people." It did not say "approximately five people." And it did not say "only two individuals were assaulting C-1."

PP here and I'm not making excuses. I'm a lawyer. This is a crime, and at present, there are exactly two suspects and no hunt for additional assailants, only witnesses.

Some of you also don't seem to understand that a police report is a first draft, and this one is particularly short and vague.

Obviously Big Balls (good grief that name) was attacked and he has identified two people as his attackers. Those two people have been arrested. There were a number of other teens present and they fled when the cops arrived, but we do not currently know if they participated in the attack or not. Ideally we will find out. If at some point the MPD releases a statement that it is looking for additional assailants as identified by the victims or the two suspects, or that they have video footage of additional people attacking the victims, I will agree that there were however many number of attackers.

As of right now, we know there were two and that there were additional teens present. That's all we know. Some of us live in the land of fact and what can be proven, instead of the land of what is most fun to talk out of our a$$es about on Twitter.

Thank you. People here seem to hate a man who defends a woman from attackers.

No, people here seem to hate a boy who participated in the haphazard and uninformed decimation of many people‘s careers as well as crippling the functioning of the government. The way that he and his DOGE buddies acted completely lacked any empathy whatsoever for the people who would be seriously and permanently harmed immediately, through job loss, as well as by consequence – – such as many of the American people.

This incident last night seems to have been a crime and it’s unfortunate that anyone underwent this experience, but I don’t have a scrap of empathy for this specific individual.

“I guess he’s little balls now!!!” — because he was jumped by 10 DC Teens. Meanwhile in the past few years, DC teens have committed multiple murders including the Uber driver in Navy Yard (Mohammed Anwar) who was carjacked and killed, and the DJ in Shaw (Bryan Smith) who was beaten to death. None of these teens have ever been sentenced to anything beyond being held until 21 for committing murder. Yet somehow in your liberal mind because you don’t like this man he is “little balls” aka a coward for, what? Not beating up the 10 DC teens who are potential murderers?

“I don’t believe this happened” — yet you same people call everyone who questions official Democratic Party narratives a “conspiracy theorist”.

You people are insufferable and I am frankly happy to see DC potentially be federalized. Lastly, you lost the national election because you are a unlikable group of people outside of your bubble — just keep that in mind.

I am a liberal democrat who lived in DC for decades, and there's an uncomfortable amount of truth here. Not everything, but a lot.

I have lived in the District (Adams Morgan/ Cleveland Park) for a total of 23 years. I 100% support federalization. Our local government officials are simply not bright enough to manage the problems.
