Another date simply asked how much I made and said he required a certain level of income. I ended the date and left. I don’t make a huge amount compared to dc standards but I do well. I’m shocked because I was always under the assumption that most men don’t care about income as long as there is attraction and good sex.

In this economy? Lol no.

A dude making 500k would rather date a hot chick earning 50k than an uglier/older woman who matches his income.

Older doesn't mean uglier fyi

Older, most of the times, does mean uglier. I’ll take Jessica Alba at 23 over the same Jessica Alba at the age of 43.

Ironic that you picked an actress that looks the same (or even better) at 43 than at 23.

Low earners don’t care (because they know they can’t be picky on this as high earning women aren’t likely to be interested in them) and high earners don’t care (because they can afford to support a family on their own. It’s the middle earners that care because they need two incomes to afford kids and a decent lifestyle.

How do you define "high value"? Some high-earning men don't care how much a woman makes because they want control. They'll let you stay home, manage their house and raise their kids for them, but they maintain control over the purse. That's how my parents' marriage worked, and my mom wasn't much more than an indentured servant.

This is how a marriage is supposed to work. Your mom is the queen of the house, not an indentured servant.

Queen of the house? The only access she gets to THEIR finances is cash in an envelope every month. She has one credit card with a very low limit, and any purchase over a few hundred dollars is scrutinized. She has no idea how much money they have, where it is, or how to access it. She has no input over any major decision. It's very sad.

Hmm. Are your parents immigrants, because white American culture is not like this at all.

Maybe in the 1950’s but certainly not today.

The delusional of DCUM. Jessica Alba at 23 is 100 times better than Jessica Alba at 43. 100% of men would prefer Jessica Alba at 23 over the 43 years Alba.

It is like saying saying Derrick Jeter is a better or the same baseball skill set at the age of 43 versus a 23 years old Jeter. How delusional can you be?

As a husband my hope was finding someone well educated with career goals and ambition. It wasn’t about how much money she made. I never asked someone how much she made but I certainly was interested in her career.

The question is whether a good looking 43 yo man would pick a 43 yo Jessica Alba or a mediocre looking 23 yo

Would you rather drive a 2025 Lexus or a 2005 Lexus?

I would drive a 2005 Lexus over a 2025 Ford Focus. But humans don’t fall apart like cars, thankfully

I spend a lot of time around wealthy men for work.

They 100% recognize that who they pick as a wife will impact their wealth and none of them would pick a 22 year old who demands unlimited spending on her. They’re not stupid.

Most prefer a woman equally invested in their business. So many have a wife who spends 40-50 hours a week on the “family” business.

Most are happy to mess around with a hottie before getting married or on the side, but none would ever seriously consider legally binding themselves to a woman with no career and no money any more than they would consider a business partner with no money or who refused to work.

A man who doesn’t care about a woman’s income is like a woman who doesn’t care if the man has any domestic or parenting skills. Kind of bygones of the 1950s where trading up Al roles were very defined. If the woman’s role is the house and children then she doesn’t need any other skills or an income - it’s the man’s job to provide and take care of his wife and children and she will take care of the home. She contributes nothing to expenses and all the responsibilities that require money and he contributes nothing to the responsibilities in the house / with the kids.

Not many people want that kind of marriage any more. Most want more equal relationships where neither is absolved of large swaths of family responsibilities. Most now are not on the - it’s 100% the man’s job or 100 % the woman’s job to do x. So men should care about what women can contribute financially and women should care about what men can contribute domestically and to parenting.

100% of men would pick the 43 yo Jessica Alba over any 23 yo overweight women, pure and simple. Stop comparing a Lexus with a Ford Focus, it is like comparing living in McLean vs. living in Culmore Falls Church. A 2005 Lexus LX470 is around 10K vs. 125K for the LX600.

They care these days but they also want a mommy to do everything at home “like a traditional woman”, which is undervalued more than ever. They want the modern woman paycheque with the traditional woman caretaking and will throw one or the other in your face if you can’t do both.
