Fear of fallout from Trump tariff plan puts some Republicans in tough spot

I am the PP you are responding to. Obviously if the democrats were infallible, they would have some power right now and wouldn't be losing elections. I was merely noting that where we are currently is 100% on the GOP for nominating and electing Trump and refusing to convict his impeachment the two times they had the chance. |
Egg prices are down. I saw Costco had $5 a dozen. |
You know what else is down: the markets. People’s savings are being decimated. The broad market index dropped 4.84% and settled at 5,396.52, posting its worst day since June 2020. The Dow Jones Industrial Average tumbled 1,679.39 points, or 3.98%, to close at 40,545.93 and mark its worst session since June 2020. The Nasdaq Composite plummeted 5.97% and ended at 16,550.61, registering its biggest decline since March 2020. The slide across equities was broad, with more than 400 of the S&P 500's constituents posting losses. |
Coffee. 99% is imported. Only Hawaii has the climate to grow it. |
Not near us. They were $6+. And the organic 24 were luckily only $8.64 |
None of it’s going to matter if folks are unemployed or underemployed while folks lose the little nest egg they’ve built up. Meanwhile the DOGE sham will be laid bare. Oh and education will get worse and worse because the GOP will continue to underinvest. And all the safety nets will be underfunded. Good times ahead. |
There should be no tariffs on items like these. |
Good, I hope we mop the floor with them. |
It’s not going well. Despite all the bluster from MAGA posters, the negative effects of Trump’s destruction of the federal government and our economy is starting to be felt. It’s only going to get worse as more people are told that the program or contract they relied on has been cut. Remember many thought it would be similar to Trump’s first term. The GOP will pay the price. As it should. As the governing party. |
But that would require being smart and using a scalpel when imposing tariffs. I work for a federal agency, and can attest: this administration is all chainsaws all the time. |
I do. And MAGA voted for the guy promising tariffs and to chainsaw the federal government. Which is why I will sit back and watch them lose farms and small businesses and their social security and their ability to feed their family this year. And I will help those in my blue community give zero fxxck about the 600 whirlpool employees in Iowa who lost their jobs today, with all big 3 automakers saying layoffs are coming. Besides 10,000 people at HHS curing cancer? I do not care. And no bailouts. Reap what you sow. |
I am a Dem and agree that this is partially why we lost. I don't personally agree with the last administration's immigration policy or trans policies. But not enough to vote for Trump! He is just so awful I just don't see how anyone could vote for him. I will never vote for him or a supporter of his. But I have (and would in the future) vote for a moderate Republican willing to say what a terrible president Trump was. |
