Is JMU on the rise?

Anonymous
I don't think it's particularly on the rise (it's been popular for years) and I don't think JMU people particularly care one way or the other.

For whatever reason, that really seems to annoy some outsiders.

JMU is a great regional school, but it will always be at least 4th in Virginia in terms of desirability and reputation.

OK with me. Virginia public college/university system is quite good. 4th among them? Great.

It’s a well rounded option for a wider range of students than the more selective (or rejective) colleges in VA. The fact it’s becoming better known nationally - due to the Common App or academic success - will elevate its standing among peers even more. Yes, it’s on the rise and much deserved. VA is lucky to have such strong options.

+1
I personally hope it doesn't "rise" too much and become one of those more rejective colleges. Love the framing of rejective rather than selective!

When did the school become so popular and why is the acceptance rate still high if so many more kids are applying? Is the yield decreasing at the same time? Is this only due to joining the Common App or something else? What’s the reputation among high school kids now? I’ve got a sophomore from MCPS who’s interested.

I'm a fan of Virginia publics, but I'm not sure any of them are really on the rise.

Your list is better than spanky's right below you, but based on incoming student stats, JMU should be on the line with Mason as opposed to VT.

Agreed. VT is in a tier of its own arguably.

JMU is not at the bottom. We are OOS and it’s a nice school. My kid has not decided yet but we visited and like it. Campus, academics, dorms, dining. It is a nice school. Why are people slamming?
