Is JMU on the rise?

My son is a freshman and in a newer dorm on East campus, and they are air conditioned and fairly nice but not luxurious or anything. The older dorms on main campus are more popular, it's where the parties are, but many are grimy and in the process of being replaced. A smaller percentage of kids live on campus after freshman year.

I don't think it is harder. In state stats are a bit higher.

It's actually easier to get in out of state. They accept more students, because the yield is much lower.

We loved the Bluestone dorms which are adjacent to the quad. So pretty.

Greek life is there for those who are interested, but it definitely doesn't dominate. It's only about 15% of the student body.

My dd begs to differ. Says it’s 20%. She originally said she wasn’t going to rush. Changed her mind spring semester. Said she didn’t realize how large it was.

That's still 80% who don't go Greek. My kids never bothered to rush and met plenty of friends through freshman dorm, clubs, organizations, and intramurals.

Whether it’s 15% or 20%, the vast majority of kids aren’t in fraternities or sororities.

+1
That's just one more thing that appealed to my DC.
