The private sector is next

All the perks were purely performative while you have zero job security and discouraged from billing overtime while being slapped with unrealistic deadlines and constant performance metrics turning thinking jobs into factory jobs.

And since some swaths of the private sector suck we have to make the public sector and all of the rest of the private sector suck too?

Seems to me the better solution would be to fix the private sector and elevate the working class to better standards rather than dragging the entire working class down to the same level.

Yes! absolutely agree with this, it's teh point. just responding to the whole "next" part. There is nothing "next", it's just been downhill for a while, circling lower rungs of the toilet is more like it.

Yes you will argue of this is what we go through in the private sector. You miss the point. You are just used to being treated like garbage.

If you have been paying attention, companies hate workers more and more. The more money they male the more they hate us and the least they want to pay us. They have been bitc***g and mo***g about the wage growth we got post COVID and the small period where workers slightly had the upper band in their choice of employment. Then they started hating remote workers coming up with all kind of nonsensical studies about it's ineffectiveness.

It's shameful that corporations (corporations are people too remember that line) have managed to turn us into hating ourselves to the point where we turn against each other.

Honestly ask yourself. How has the existence of a fed worker render your life miserable?

They already came for us

H1bs and opts and l1 and h4.

All used to replace IT workers with cheap foreign labor

You are a little late to the party

DOGE can go take my job, I don't have one. My employment haven't been stable in a long time and I cannot do this anymore

So this. You had to either continue competing with cheaper labor and take lower wages/rates to stay employed or move to management and try to climb a VERY crowded ladder or just keep your job. And many people also lost jobs during Biden's administration for ideological reasons too (not agreeing with CRT and wokeism at work or not taking Covid shots). A lot of people in Banking/Finance also lost their jobs for a while during 2008 recession. Entire huge companies shut down.
Not sure why everyone here assumes it's been a cake-walk for the private sector. It sucked for us before, and it's only going to suck more in the near future.

+1. DH has been laid off twice since he graduated law school. 2009 and 2020. Both terrible times to be laid off. The silver lining is that because of these experiences we became very frugal and financially conservative and now can weather just about anything, unlike when we were younger. It’s not quite FU money (yet) but getting close.

Which is why it is incomprehensible that the Democrats decided boys in girls sports and defund the police were more important than an actual labor movement.

Except they didn't. You batshit dummies believe every piece of garbage that comes out of that liars mouth. It's mind boggling how gullible you are.

I don’t know. The UMC liberal mom brigade in my neighborhood is rabidly pro Trans rights. You have to nod and smile or they will excommunicate you.

Since January 1st, 2024, 5700+ companies have announced mass layoffs.

Since January 1st, 2025, 190+ companies have announced mass layoffs.[Last update: January 21, 2025].

So I ask you... for how many of those layoffs did the workers have to endure the POTUS and some megalomaniac billionaire with a chainsaw and a social media company maligning them, calling them lazy and worthless, accusing them wrongfully of committing fraud, etc. etc. though multiple television appearances and social media posts?

I'll wait.

There is no F-in parallel and I'm sick of private sector people pretending they have any F-in clue what this is like.

Oh well if there a few moms in your neighborhood, it must be the whole party...

Do you think before you speak/type?

Clearly not. FFS.

I remember how distraught the feds were during the Covid pandemic when businesses went under, speech about ideas that are now widely accepted was suppressed, and people lost their jobs for not taking an experimental therapy of dubious value. The compassion was overwhelming.

It’s our turn to return the favor with a similar level of concern.

This assessment is based on what? Your personal experience? I think this was a you problem. Based on this post, it seems likely people don't care about you because of...you.

STFU. There were PPP loans and expanded unemployment. Everyone felt terrible for laid off workers and for the essential workers who couldn’t stay home. Feds had no say in things like the Covid vaccine.

You’re just angry and lashing out at people who have nothing to do with why you’re mad like a tantruming toddler.

Reminds me of the POTUS.

I'm in my 50s. I look over my shoulder every single day. I've been with my company for 12 years. I could be laid off any time, any day. That's why I keep my head down and work as hard as I can to make my work indispensable, to make me indispensable. But I worry every day. Being over 50 is a challenge, even though I'm highly skilled and not a lot of people have my skill set. But it doesn't matter. Some higher up will decide I'm paid too much and lay me off to be replaced by a couple of know-nothing kids in their 20s. I've seen it happen many times.

But, of course I feel badly for the federal workers who are being axed by Trump-Musk. Part of the appeal of federal jobs has been how safe they are, especially for someone like me who is over 50. Now, no one is safe. I know lots of people who are losing their jobs because of the cuts in grants and contracts -- most in the private sector. This is no way to run a country.
