Snow day

Weather apps are mostly pointless this far out. That’s why we have actual human forecasters like CWG.

CWG is currently forecasting 0-8". I like CWG for their detailed articles and explanations but they aren't good forecasters.

…because it’s too early for an accurate forecast. Anyone telling you a specific accumulation when the storm is still over the pacific is a charlatan.

We don't need it because schools need to be open. If you want to discuss the joys of winter storms, do it on the Off Topic forum. Doing it here just means you want schools closed. Lazy.

I prefer schools to be open and my kids to be bleeding in a ditch where their bus slid off the road. I am a totally sane parent who does not hate his children and I should be taken very seriously.

That’s harsh.

It’s a possibility that a bus can’t make it to a school and then creating a panic when the automated calls start…”your kid is absent…”

What?
The PP said they prefer school to be open and their kids to be bleeding on a ditch.

I think that was satire, which seems to be lost on most of the brain-damaged lunatics on this hellsite.

I remember that day too. I was teaching at the time 15 min from my house and it took me almost 1.5 hours to get to school (after dropping kid off at home daycare on the way). Half of the staff didn’t make it because they were coming from a lot further out (other counties)… the ones that did got rewarded with an extra personal day and that day didn’t count for those who didn’t come. Being severely understaffed made for an interesting day. Hope that never happens again.

This reminds me of the time about ten years ago when they didn't shut down. The elementary bus pulled up at our corner (down a slow hill) and 15 seconds later a car turned onto the street behind it, started skidding about halfway down and slammed into the back of the bus.

I think I remember the same event; APS didn’t cancel and I slid onto someone’s yard driving my walker to school.

I remember it too. We live across the street from our elementary school and we watched car after car slide down the hill, failing to make it to the kiss and ride line. Then we watched buses slide down the hill, failing to make it to the school.

After that, they closed much more quickly. But that was years ago and the current superintendent doesn't have any experience with any of this. So we'll see how next week goes.

Call me crazy but I think we are overreacting. I mean it's only I mean it's only Thursday going to make that call on Sunday I mean it's only Thursday so they're going to make that call on Sunday. And I remember that day yeah I think it was in January 6, 2015, It's funny cause January 6 seems to be an interesting day in the DMV January 6, 2015 and '20 January 6 2021A day that remembered

My app now says close to 10 inches.

With 8-9 inches, Monday and Tuesday will be closed for sure. Possibly even Wednesday. 2 hr delays Thursday and Friday.

The Euro has been predicting 10ish inches for a few days, the GFS caught up and is now doing the same. If the system shifts south at all, it means even more snow. I'm guessing Monday/Tuesday will be closed for sure, 80% chance of Wednesday being closed and 50/50 odds of Thu/Fri being closed because of sun melt and refreeze with daytime temps not breaking freezing and night temps being in the teens.

I’m looking at 8 inches combined.

And you are a troll

(Pp is correct with 8” snow very likely Monday and Tuesday will be closed and who knows about the next days.

Not a troll. I could respond similarly but since this thread is not the place for that, I won't.

If we get 8+" of snow, school will be closed the entire week.

Does it really take a week to shovel sidewalks and clear roads even for 8 inches of snow? It's not supposed to be above freezing until the following Saturday so I'm assuming ice won't be a major factor.

With melting and refreezing, ice will be a factor. But aside from that, 8-10" of snow is a lot to move off of roads and put somewhere else, by experienced crews. This will be the first snow of the season, where crews will be remembering how to plow roads or learning for the first time. So it will take longer, as they get up to speed.
