I don't have any issue with them -- they cover up way more than the bikinis that were on display throughout the summer. Have you guys been on college campuses recently and seen what girls are wearing to their classes? It looks really uncomfortable to me, but whatever. The amount of skin truly doesn't bother me (and it is certainly appreciated by my sons). Don't we all like to look at pretty things? (Or silently judge those who don't pull it off?)

DH went to a visit a friend who has a teen daughter. She is quite busty and was wearing a tube top. When he came by, she was constantly lifting up her tube top, and it was clear she was not comfortable wearing it. He kept thinking, "why are you wearing that ? You look so uncomfortable". And before you call him a perv, no, he thought she was ridiculous. He has no problem with nudity in general, but clearly she was not comfortable wearing that.

But why do you guys care if she was uncomfortable? Women have been uncomfortable in the name of fashion for centuries -- stilettos, corsets, headdresses, etc. (And why in the world would I call him a perv? That seems a strange reaction as well.)

Don't really care. Just making a comment.

And I agree, women have been uncomfortable for centuries to be a slave to fashion. That's not very empowering.

Something about it makes these ladies feel uncomfortable inside. Maybe they didn’t have the confidence at that age or they truly believe men can’t control themselves when they see skin.

+1. It seems like 95% of these posters do not have a teenager daughter but they sure have a lot of opinions on teenage girls.

+1. Really gross to see these comments in 2024.

I have a teen DD who went to HoCo. I would not let her weary a trashy dress. They look like prostitutes. Her friends came over our house all dressed up, and omg.. they looked like they were spilling out of their dresses, constantly pulling the skirt down, but the bodice up. FYI if you constantly have to fidget with your dress, it's probably not appropriate.

^^^someone has clearly never seen a prostitute in real life. I assure you, they aren't wearing a shiny, brand new dress and heels.

I have also seen them irl. Some of the prostitutes do indeed wear similar dresses.

Can people just stop comparing 15 yr old girls to prostitutes and calling them whores. It’s insane. They are children figuring things out. We all went through years of figuring out who we are, what we like, how to function in society. Good god, extend some grace and why are women always one another’s worst enemies. Words matter, they impact children, be kind.

I remember that K St. prostitutes. You’re right they didn’t look like the homecoming dresses because they weren’t shiny or glittery and they were a little bit longer.

No . . . they don't.

I am shocked that so many would let their girls go to a dance dressed like that. There is no way I would let my teen go like that. And I don’t think she would want to either - she has some morals!

It is not about morals. It is about current fashion. Does your teen wear a bikini to the beach/pool?

Same photo taken of a line of girls bent at the knee with their butts in the next girl’s groin. Have I just missed the social media photos with the kids who are creative and express themselves differently or do those kids just not go to homecoming dances?

This is definitely connected to the wealth of the school/families. I have friends whose daughters attend these schools and this exactly describes the pictures she shared. My DD goes to a title 1 that is very diverse. The homecoming dresses and looks were all so different and unique. There was no “look” that all the girls had. It was actually great to see them all expressing themselves through fashion however they wanted.

Are there kids at your school renting buses to take the kids to the Lincoln Memorial for pictures and then to dinner?

I hope not. It's such a waste of money. Echoing a PP who said, this is not a wedding ... sheesh. Get dressed up, go to dinner, take a few pics, show up at the dance to be seen, and go home. Kids should not be spending $500 for HoCo.

My kid did that for prom (which I appreciate is different) and it’s not that expensive. A tiny Windsor polyester HoCo dress getting hate here is about $30-$40. My DD wore same shoes for all dances - shoe style is really consistent these days. Kids can’t order alcohol so dinner is maybe $30-$40 each. The not fancy bus was about $65/kid and the best value of all - no kids or parents driving downtown. I wouldn’t do that for a 9th grader but I’d be game for a junior or senior. Love keeping kids off the road.

but these gorks look comfortable. the tube top syretchy dresses look super uncomfortable and the girls are tugging, pulling on the, instead if forgetting aboyt their clothes, leting loose and having fun. i know that getting ready is part of the fun but they should be able to relax after the outfit is put on!

Uhm… are you old enough to remember wearing nylons?

That’s what moms are for. Not only are some of you completely abdicating your responsibility, but it would seem living vicariously through your daughters! (Seriously, stop talking about your 15 year old’s “rockin’ bod” you weirdo creeps.)

If you don’t want people to think your daughter looks like a streetwalker, stop letting her leave the house dressed like one! This isn’t complicated.

Hello moral police, we are discussing this on a thread. Not to your naked snowflakes face. Sorry if you are so defensive.

Also, after watching all the videos about Gen Z getting fired from jobs because they think only their opinion and happiness matters maybe a reality check about how they are viewed by others isn't a terrible thing.

There are different styles of bikini, just as there are different styles of dresses. Some look nice/classy/attractive, others look like the person wearing them is desperate for sexual attention.

+1 I don't let my DD wear a thong to the beach/pool, just as I don't let my DD wear a dress that makes her look like a street walker.

I don't think it's immoral to wear a short and tight dress. I also would not compare these girls to prostitutes and I also think it's inherently misogynist to use "prostitute" as a pejorative as though women who sell sex are selling to themselves -- prostitution doesn't exist because *women* are "immoral" weirdos.

Anyway. I just think these dresses are tacky and unflattering and look really impractical. Glad to hear they are wearing shorts under them and I do hope they feel good in them and enjoy the dance. I don't judge these girls but I do judge their clothes -- yes I'm a middle aged lady and I view it as my right to look at the clothes the kids are wearing and roll my eyes!
