Why are Christians insisting the opening ceremony depicted The Last Supper when it really was the Feast of Dyonisus?

Yes, OP has also ignored the apology.

Also agreed it’s time to move on. I’m certainly not boycotting the Olympics over the brain-dead antics of a wanna-be shock jock. But I also think people like OP are as flatly ridiculous as the people they are criticizing.

So you are saying the central figure on the stage didn’t understand her role? Is that your actual position?

To be fair, the central figure doesn't understand quite a few other things.

It’s stupid to boycott the Olympics because of it. Whether it is, or isn’t. In fact, I feel extra patriotic when the Olympics are on.

This is victimhood.

No it's not.

Try making fun of Judaism like this.
Try making fun of Islam like this.

You would see fireworks if they had targeted Islam, as someone pointed out in an earlier post.

You would see advertisers pulling out their funds, if they had targeted Judaism.

It wasn’t about you or your religion. THAT’S the problem. You’re self centered and you’ve been told you’re special so everything must be about you and persecuting your beliefs. There are about 200 religions represented in the athlete village. Why are you making this about one?

Take an art history or French lit class. Wait until you find out how many Christian churches are in France. Ever heard of Notre Dame?

What does Notre Dame have to do with the Olympics? Christianity’s prevalence or history in France is not the matter at hand

It’s the Christians’ fault for being offended.

It’s not the Olympics fault for purposely wanting to be provocative and mock Christianity.

i can't follow this thread, are there right wingers who think Kamala planned the Olympics opening ceremony or something?

TL;DR: yes. Well, her and Hakeem Jefferies and the Deep State.

do they know it's the Paris olympics?

Yes. They think Harris, Jefferies and the Deep state have formed a cabal and are secretly controlling the opening ceremony to mock Christians.

You can’t make this sh*t up. Only in 2024.

Literally nobody’s saying this. People ARE saying the LGBTQ push is becoming too extreme. They want the kids.

They are literally not hiding it anymore that they want to appeal to kids . This colorful cartoonish display and color palette is built to appeal to a child sensibility. It’s like a drag queen/Gay Disney.

It would be better if they just admitted they wanted their movement to attract the eye and affection of kids.

Instead, they’re deflecting just like you are about a cabal nobody’s mentioned or notre dame. I haven’t seen anyone say the LGBTQ do not want to get to kids with gender ideology and rainbow colored /cartoonish looking drag queen and men and that’s unsettling.

Christians don’t have a pride month

Every day is pride day for Christians.

And, then,..... the "fashion show" that was featured was just as bizarre.

The Olympics is supposed to be about athletes - their skills and sacrifice to become the fastest, the strongest, the best at their sport.

This type of display certainly missed the mark. Big time.

I’m liberal and agree with this. What I don’t get is what is has to do with the US elections.

And strongly disagree with boycotting an our athletes or pulling them out. Not their fault.

This and This. I totally missed it during the opening ceremony as did my 20+ yr old DD -- after the fact DD's own words were..."well, it was definitely in bad taste" but neither she nor I immediately thought about The Last Supper connection and neither of us knew about the Dionysus connection either.

That being said, I can see how it could be interpreted as potentially a mockery of the Last Supper especially with the lady in the middle wearing a huge halo. Once I did see how it could be interpreted as such I did feel a bit offended...but then I got over it. I mean there are bigger problems in the world and more important things happening in my life than getting in a tizzy over something I have no control over even if I do personally feel it was in very bad taste and could most definitely have been handled differently. Now, it's also ridiculous to boycott the Olympics in any way over this. Our entire society has lost their common sense along with their minds.

But here's the thing...

Problem #1: Social Media. How do you react when you see a post from a priest (and many other similar posts) who states, and I quote "on the day after some drag queens intentionally mocked the last supper" -- sharing the belief that it was not only mockery but "intentional"?? And in that same post adds "So if you want to be outraged, that's okay with me. But may I suggest that you channel your outrage toward the good..."

Problem #2: It is not just the US that is all up in arms. This is global -- all Christian/Catholics and even non-Christians were offended across the world and are sharing their outrage (back to Problem #1). This is only more political here in the US because of the current polarized elections and society we are in right now. However, if you think this hasn't reached the political arena overseas -- just research the rise of populism in Europe and see what pops up. Examples: https://www.reuters.com/article/world/rising-populism-stokes-homophobic-hate-speech-across-europe-rights-group-idUSKBN1ZY0X2/ and https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/13505068241230819

Problem #3: And this is honestly the biggest problem I have with the whole fashion show/Dionysus Parody - or whatever parody they wanted to make it about. Why did they ALL have to be LGBTQ/drag queens? The Olympics at its core is all about bringing everyone together - regardless of politics, religion, color, etc....and this should include lifestyle! The Olympic Committee - whether intentional or not - royally and I mean big time screwed up in this regard. If this were a true parody of Dionysus and you wanted to truly be inclusive and appeal to the spirit of the Olympics - unity - then in reality there should have been representatives of all races, all genders (LGBTQ AND non-LGBTQ), participating in the parody. Had there been a woman dressed in period costume, a man wearing a toga, a drag queen, etc. we wouldn't be here. Also, the humongous gold halo on the center lady's head could have been a bit more understated because my mom said that was what made her think of the Last Supper - the in-your-face huge gold halo.

Problem #4: Because this happened at the beginning it set the tone where the RWNJs then had fuel to look at and criticize every other element which was ridiculous. Everything else was amazing. Unfortunately, this one stupid thing added fuel to the already extreme RWNJs.

Your first sentence was correct.

Your second sentence was incorrect, because it was about the Feast of Dionysus which predates Christianity and has absolutely nothing to do with Christianity.

“Star”? Come on. She’s an extra. Give me a break.
And yeah I’ve worked on movies with 1,000’s of them. They often have no clue what any given scene is about. It’s absurd to have any interest in them.

The Last Supper reference wasn’t the only one and it isn’t just Christians offended. I’ve seen atheists even offended by it.

It was the inappropriate nature of it all when kids are watching.

Is this cool?

What about the Golden Calf that they actually prayed to in the beginning ?
Is that not about Christianity (all of the Abrahamic religions really)?
