There was no drama at CVA . They wanted a U14 National team and changed the coaching staff to better the team that was underperforming. The change was for the better. CVA is often overlooked as a club. They offer 3 team practices and 2 academy trainings a week. Literally the players work on hitting, defense & setting open to all in the club grouped by age. There are also 3 evaluations so you always know where you stand with your coaches. The fees include coaches travel so you are only paying for your travel and the schedule has you primarily playing outside of the region because we all know when you play CHRVA tournaments with the exception of CAP hill you are playing the same teams over and over again.

My daughter (13U eligible) is seriously considering trying out for Paramount as it is closest to where we live.
I’d love for my daughter to play in a club where she can play for years (if she’s good enough to make the team each year). So I’m doing my research to find a club where my daughter can develop and grow her love for volleyball! Paramount is a strong club in CHRVA but I heard some dramas happened last season across multiple age groups. Does anyone know what really happened with Paramount’s teams last season? This is what I’ve heard- 13-1: coach got fired 16-1: coach quit mid-season 17-1: multiple players quit mid-season Did this really happen? I know every club has dramas but this seems a bit too much. Is VA Juniors a better alternative? |

I’m at MD club and I’m not sure if MD club fees are necessarily half the cost of VA clubs. I did compare the numbers and find MD clubs 1-1.5k cheaper. It seems VA clubs like to include uniform fees and coach travel feels while MD clubs don’t? (I could be wrong) |
M2 Volleyball training in Columbia Maryland is one of the best summer training and summer camp in the CHRVA region. Many come from PA & VA to the summer camp. It is insanely intense but you are better for it when the week ends. |
ANSWER: While the club director did relocate she is extremely involved with her Assistant Director, Coaching Staff, Board, and Parents/Players (no matter if they choose to make Legacy VBA their home or not). She has helped tons of families around the country find their player(s) find a college/university home! Please do not pass judgment on a person you know ZERO about. Don’t put your bias off on this Director because of your past personal experiences. This Director eats, sleeps, and breathes volleyball. It behooves you or it’s in your BEST interest to check out her YOUTUBE CHANNEL: The Volley Truth |
I think the advice to reserve judgment is fair, but I think it's also fair to be cautious with spending a large amount of money on an unproven club. I have no doubt the club director and coaches have the best intentions, but attracting full teams of players that are able to really compete at a high level to a first year club is ambitious. Players with that type of skill and experience will likely have options - it doesn't seem prudent for athletes like these to risk their money and a full season on a club with no track record. Sure the club director and coaches can point to successful teams that they have coached in the past, but it's a lot easier to be successful within an existing club, where there are usually a core group of experienced players that stay with a club from one season to the next. I do sincerely hope they prove me wrong though. There is a need for more quality clubs within CHRVA. |
Not a Paramount parent, but I did hear from a parent of a player on the 17s team that multiple players quit mid-season. As to the other two, I don't know the reasons why, but it does appear by comparing rosters from tournaments for the early part of the season to the end of the season that both the head coaches from the 13-1s and 16-1s were different from the beginning of the season to the end. Volley by the James in January https://events.sportwrench.com/#/events/d8f1923be/clubs/31948 USAV Nationals in July https://results.advancedeventsystems.com/event/PTAwMDAwMzM4MDQ90/clubs/14217/standings and https://results.advancedeventsystems.com/event/PTAwMDAwMzM4MDM90/clubs/14217/standings |
To be the parent of a travel athlete and criticize an organization for being ambitious is interesting. In sports you go hard or go home. If the club started with a weak schedule and low competition that would be critiqued as well. A lot of alternative routes may have been "easier" but no risk no reward. Not sure why anyone would take issue with a new club with a competitive schedule UNLESS that club is challenging the status quo of players sitting on the bench, filling rosters when they are skilled enough to get playing time. There are also well known clubs where the director is in close proximity but is never seen at practices or tournaments. If there is a qualified individual who has the relational capital to pull coaches and players from across the country then by all means, let that person enjoy the liberties of remote work and travel in 2024. At the rate in which girls volleyball is swelling in the DMV I'd be hesitant to snub a club just for being new. You never know when your athlete may need a spot on their roster. Rooting for LVA!!! |
ANSWER: I will agree that there is a need for more quality clubs and coaches. We will see if the DMV is ready for MORE change and take a CHANCE! I mean the Renaissance DC 18s REALLY did a good job this past season with a group of players that wanted to do something different! They made it to Nationals and had a great time! |
Do you know why 17-1 players quit mid season? I heard it was because of playing time but it’s hard to believe they pay $$$ for Paramount and just quit mid season. |
I heard it was a few factors. One factor was definitely playing time for some players. Another reason I heard was the intensity of the team's coach - when things weren't going well, he allegedly has a bit of a temper. |
Clearly the coaching change was good for the 16s: they finished 5th place overall at USAV GJNC in the National Division Clearly the players that quit the team for 17s weren't key contributors, as that team finished 5th overall in the American Division of GJNC |
Not sure I understand your logic. Correlation does not equal causation. Isn't it just as likely that both of those teams would have finished higher at GJNC if there was less turmoil? |
Since no one has ever played for Legacy before, all of these posts about LVA have to be by the club director or someone in the club staff.
I’m not the PP that asked the questions, but the questions were valid. The response was to shout at us, tell us that players are “riding the bench” at other clubs, imply that 2s teams at other clubs are bad, claim that MD prices are the same as your rates (they’re not BTW), tell us we aren’t checking prices (we are) and shouldn’t speak up, claim players at other clubs won’t play for 4 years because the core group doesn’t change (see all the posts about turnover at big name clubs, including a post right in the middle of yours), then attack MVSA for not paying their coaches, backhand compliment those same coaches where you basically call them “absolutely insane” for volunteering their time, and then finish with using a Renaissance team as a good example of the CHANCE you want everyone to take (forgetting that Renaissance started and folded within 1-2 years?). Is really how you want to be viewed as a new club? |
