NVSL ASR and excessive heat?

How did they find out about this? Was it at the mandatory coaches meeting before the meet?

It is really shocking that this wasn't mentioned or clearly outlined in the pre-meet guides.

Yes, first mention was at the 3:45 meeting. Team Reps were told about the meeting at 3:00pm. They also did not have the pool set up with lane lines for pool familiarization, so there was no opportunity for teams to even see that it was an issue ahead of time. How is this not an issue at every meet Rutherford hosts?

My kids are in the same B meet group with Rutherford, and I've been a stroke and turn judge at B meets at Rutherford maybe 4 or 5 times, and I don't remember ever being told anything about the lanes. And it wasn't in the pre-meet info for ASR. My guess is that someone at one of the hyper competitive top division teams noticed the wall curve and brought it up as an unfair advantage.

This. We are in Rutherford’s B meet league and I have also been an S&T there and was never told about this.

No. We heard about the curve issue and dq rule days before the meet from a senior swimmer familiar with the pool.

Touching the tape was “in bounds”. They must have touched outside of the tape to get a tape violation DQ.

I saw the comments about the D1 pools and wanted to chime in that most of the D1 pools could never pull off an event like this because they are on small properties not co-located with a field. My D1 pool barely has room to host a regular A meet. You should see our tiny gravel parking lot. Thank you to all the teams who have stepped up in the past. We are grateful to you!

Really? Yet the NVSL opted not to tell anyone until 15 min before the start of meet? Thats even more frustrating.

Come and visit Highlands and tell us where you would put all the team tents and you figure out parking. Some Clubs just don’t have the land or land nearby to logistically be able to be a host pool.

I am so grateful that there are pool clubs that have the space to hold this event as it is a major undertaking AND are willing to do it!

Yes. That’s correct.

Just awards not points

9-10a didn’t swim either

What about Old Keene Mill? Looks like a field near their pool.

Perhaps it’s never really been questioned, or if it has it’s just been overlooked.

OKM has offered and NVSL viewed Burke Center Pkwy as a huge safety risk for kids to have to cross to get back and forth to the church where the tents would be. There is no light or crosswalk across Burke Center Parkway. And there is no adjacent field. There are tennis courts and a grocery store parking lot on the side where the OKM pool is.

We were told that the DQ was for touching the tape. It sounds like one of the girls on relay maybe thought they were supposed to touch the tape as part of the sudden rule change. We were informed about the tape and the new rule 20 minutes before the start so lots of confusion. #nodqs4tape #tapegate

Pinecrest is hiring police and paying thousands to help navigate traffic issues for all stars.

I don’t think you understand. It’s not traffic of BCP. It’s the constant streams of walking children back and forth across it to get to the only place OKM could put tents. There is no crosswalk or light. No amount of police can keep six hours of constant walking back and forth (children as young as 5), and no sane parent would trust this. Indeed, the county would never sanction it.

Sounds like the tape was an obstruction in the lane. Better toss the results and re-swim the heats with legal lanes

Um, I'm at OKM. I don't think anyone wants it there because we have a gutter that effectively makes the pool slightly longer. In addition, we are a 50 M pool, and viewing is difficult, even for a home meet- the teams can't even get close to the action. People would freak if they had to watch an all star meet there. I don't think anyone offers, nor does NVSL want a meet at our pool.
