I don't get the complaint about "baking on a tennis court"? I would much rather have the team area on a clay court than on asphalt in a parking lot or on grass. |
I looked at the satellite view and they don't have enough space for tents/parking without kids having to cross Lee Highway which is obviously a no go. |
Bummer. Who else has an air conditioned clubhouse? ![]() |
OH Hosted AS and they don't have a lot of green space. Team were in the parking lot. Tuckahoe's lot is definitely bigger than OH and big enough for teams, just saying. D1 send the most kids to ASR and AS and never hosts even when the league is begging for teams. |
Clearly you haven’t been there the past couple of years. They did a great job and much appreciation for them hosting in the past. Those events are a lot of work. |
Virginia Run has 10 lanes |
Teams (D1) asking for Club Med without any contribution. Yeah, they get sympathy from me.

I still think that there should be a rule change in NVSL as to who should host these events.
The most swimmers for two consecutive years (to cover the up and down year) should host. This would make the D1 pools have to actually work instead of just being obnoxious rude guests. If another pool would like to step up for monetary reasons they could, but the default should be the pool with the most swimmers - this would also force those families to work. I really think this is a no brainer. Currently the NVSL pleads with them to host and they are like no. |
LOL we went to Virginia Run last year for relays for the first time and my kids were in awe. Their clubhouse is like a fancy hotel lobby. And they had free giant cookies for the volunteers! I was so happy I had signed up to do data that meet in the a/c.
The grandparents relaxed in the clubhouse and then could go out to this viewing balcony to see their kids swim, and then go back to the couches. |
What are you talking about? They are all neighborhood pools. |
I have been to Overlee, Donaldson Run, and Highlands (three of the D1 pools). They cannot host. They do not have the infrastructure or space to do so and I don't think could even get the permitting to host. Inadequate space, access roads, parking, etc.
Why doesn't NVSL charge all these families and rent an indoor pool facility with proper infrastructure and then not weather-dependent. |
Would anyone be that disappointed if the NVSL sunsetted this event? Award the top 18 teams in the league from Relay Carnivals like in 2021. Given the new FCPS school calendar, the season feels so compressed. I'm a summer swim evangelist, yet I'd be happy to let this one go. (Parent from a team that sends a ton of relays annually.) (PS - I have tremendous respect for the host pools that take this on!) |
most people would not notice at all because most kids don't participate. Then again, those people also don't particularly care if a judge passes out because NVSL goes forward with an afternoon race when it's 99 outside. The problems associated with ASR are confined to ASR, so not even a blip on the radar to most families |
I think an indoor pool is a great idea. I wonder how much they would charge NVSL. |
I honestly think its unfair how much more the fast kids get for their swim team registration.
B meet Larlo pays $200 and gets to swim in 5 lame, long, boring B meets that aren't even scored like real meets. A meet Larla pays $200 and gets to swim in 5 super fun A meets, with themes and team lunches, 5 B meets, extra attention from coaches during Practice, relay carnival, all star relay carnival, and individual all stars. A meet Larla's parents aren't required to do any extra volunteering above what B meet Larlo's parenrs do. It honestly feels like the B team families are subsidizing the A swimmers. |
