Arlington Co. and its deer problem

And what happens when the dart misses the deer and hits a child? So the child will now be infertile or chemically hormonally altered for life?

Your suggestion is as dumb as shooting them with guns. And just as dangerous to the children of Arlington.

They dart instead of shooting you fool. The same protocol. At night in marked off areas. If Larlo keeps sneaking out at night they will get shot not darted. If you worry about kids getting darted ask how they aren't getting shot.

When there’s not enough forage left for them, many deer will starve to death, and others not killed by starvation will be sufficiently weakened that they will be vulnerable to disease outbreaks. These two factors will eventually reduce the population of deer down to what the environment can sustain.

In short: do nothing. Nature will handle it.

Or we could just return their natural predators to the area. More coyotes some bobcats, lynx and bear would do the trick. They would all be nice cute, cuddly addition to the neighborhood.

They do and are planning to donate it to the AFAC food pantries. Another uproar going on there.

I think Arlington should hold a public referendum to decide the venison jerky flavors. We can't leave a decision like that to a corporate overlord.

I think we should hold a referendum on shooting indigenous animals.

Most local governments only allow public referendums for issues that don't matter, or where the outcome is already known.

The last exception to this was the meal tax referendum in Fairfax County.

I wish they had done a public referendum on the meal tax in Arlington. It is sky high now.

The big cat families are known for killing by severing the spine with a single bite. They don't have the stamina to chase prey for hours. Wolves hunt differently, as a group, exhausting their prey until it collapses. That's a long, drawn out death.

There are some good youtube videos. No, big cats often don't kill their prey with a single bite.

We have several rescued domestic companion cats, and, to be honest, they seem to enjoy torturing the other animals they hunt down and catch, unfortunately.

About 8 years ago we had a 8 point buck in our yard harassing a doe and then finally mating all over the course of several hours. We live in (Kent) between MacArthur, Loughboro, and Arizona on the middle of our block - not next to a park or wild area. It was crazy. I still have video our kids took ( from inside the house).

Go read The Age of Deer for description of deer management and such. It's available at Arlington Library or online.
Heartbreaking. The fawns go eee eee eee when the backyard cullers kill them with a bolt gun. I think Arlington isn't doing back yards, just rifles on public land.

Would you stop with their crusade? Big cats do commonly dig in before their prey is retired. It happens especially with large prey.

Not that poster, but here are your human lions treating their prey comfortably while they suffocate it. As noted this isn't uncommon with large prey. I have nothing against lions, they are an important part of the natural world, but they don't follow any rules.
