Don't know about Canada, but my own cold weather country means people are skiing, skating, swimming in ice, and even sledding.
Anything that keeps them moving. We also have lots of free land, just like Canada, to grow our own food. |

The US has also exported a lot of our methods and values to the rest of the world, making them fatter. Processed fast foods, factory farming, competitive work environments that require longer hours and higher stress, car obsession/dependency, a vision of wealth and prosperity reliant on over-consumption as opposed to good health. Europe is also getting fatter for the same reasons. We've done a shitty job at spreading American-style democracy to the world, but a great job of spreading American-style capitalism. |
