how come our neighbors up north in Canada aren't anywhere near as fat as we are?

What does demographics have to do with this?

Different demographics have different obesity rates.

That’s racist. Ick.

This is science. Take east Asians, their overweight threshold starts at BMI of 23. If they follow American guidelines of 25 and eat 1800 calories they will die at age 55.

Fact!
Every sandwich comes with a double sized order of french fries. Some places, it's all you can eat french fries with your sandwich.

Don't know about Canada, but my own cold weather country means people are skiing, skating, swimming in ice, and even sledding.
Anything that keeps them moving.
We also have lots of free land, just like Canada, to grow our own food.

Also rural Quebec. Super heavy food for people under permafrost, often featuring some combination of red meat, fried potatoes, cheese, and pastry dough. Some combination of snow day, redneck, and French.

And Canada's fastest growing ethnic group is Asians, particularly educated Asians who settle in major cities like Vancouver and Toronto.

Rural Canadians are fat, they're just offset in some cases by these new skinny people.

Portion sizes were normal, lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, and food was free of chemicals and additives. I felt full faster and healthier as food was natural and unprocessed.

Everyone is thin in Asia.

Chinese people are getting more and more fat now that they have money

The US has also exported a lot of our methods and values to the rest of the world, making them fatter. Processed fast foods, factory farming, competitive work environments that require longer hours and higher stress, car obsession/dependency, a vision of wealth and prosperity reliant on over-consumption as opposed to good health.

Europe is also getting fatter for the same reasons. We've done a shitty job at spreading American-style democracy to the world, but a great job of spreading American-style capitalism.
