Either BOE hasn't done homework/research to know what exactly they should be asking; CO tells not to ask certain type of questions or any; or trying to keep peace in board room by not asking(!). If you follow the meetings, it may make you want to vote for outsiders such as those mentioned on this thread. By voting Apple, you are asking for more of the same. But, ask yourself, do you want a '16 U.S. Presidential general election type outcome by voting for the [two] outsiders talked about here? If they win, we will not be voting in the other half of BOE for another few years.

Or the BOE members apologize and insist they know how hard the MCPS staff are working, even though it's clear the staff in question are fumbling or have seriously dropped the ball.

There's a strange propensity among the BOE to apologize for even performing their basic oversight functions as board members.

I hadn't noticed, but I was hoping you could provide a few examples.

+1. All I can think of is when they apologize for falling behind in the scheduled timing of agenda items, which seems like a thing normal humans would do.

If you watch BOE meetings regularly, I don't see how you miss it.

Moms4Liberty stands for hate, racism, terrorism and down right stupidity. We do not want either of these sub humans representing our schools.

Bethany in particular has zero to add to the conversation. She is a liar, psychopath and not a good person. If you have to scrub your online presence then you are not fit for a school board. Especially when that presence shows what a hateful, stupid barely human you are. Most importantly her tweets and words show a basic lack of humanity, intelligence and education.

Tell us how you really feel!

LOL yep I will not be quiet about her utter incompetence and hate.

It's not hard for anyone to find online seriously people I get some people want change at MCPS fine but Bethany Mandel is not the answer nor is Diaz. Liars belong no where near the kids. Mandel has spoken at many Moms4Liberty events Diaz has as well. Why are they not putting it on their profiles? We know why because they are liars.

Ok but you come off as unhinged in your hatred of them.

DP, they definitely don’t sound unhinged… they sound like they know Mandel is the absolute worst choice (which she is). Stop trying to make the sane people sound like the ones with issues because you’re not educated yourself.

Mandel is a right wing nutcase. It disturbs me that anyone would consider voting for her. Too many people in this country writhe in their own ignorance.

This county needs some balance to counteract the left wing nutcases who are currently in charge. We’ll take what we can get.

Yeah…good luck with that. Imbecile.

Do you always sign your name in your posts?

I've noticed the same. When I first watched BOE meetings, I was astounded by the lack of oversight which is what I expected a board to do. It was like they were all handed rubber stamps upon joining the board.

As in past years, the most outspoken member of the BOE is.. the student member:

Apple Ballot all the way. Not because it’s the Apple ballot, but because the rest of the non-incumbent candidates have no idea what they’d be in for, and we do not have the luxury of FAFO time in this school district rn.

So, folks like Lynne Harris don't turn up on the Apple Ballot because teachers know that she refuses to hold the Central Office accountable.

If you support teachers, who are the people who most want a BoE that holds Central Office feet to the fire, I wouldn't rule out Apple Ballot candidates.

You don't have to vote straight ticket, but look for folks who seem willing to ask hard questions and keep asking them even if Central Office folks obfuscate and lie.

I think that's quite a stretch. And Harris is actually one of the board members who has questioned central office staff the most often.

That's not true. She thinks people who complain about MCPS are doing too much and don't realize how good they have it. Hence her recent comment in a board meeting where she said, "People complain about Montgomery County Public Schools until they go somewhere else": https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1195303.page

Lynne is not willing to take MCPS to task in serious ways.

Lynne has been asking the most questions of the staff all along. Her statement about people complaining about MCPS until they go somewhere else was poorly phrased. In the context of what she was saying at the time, she was trying to point out that there are positive things happening in the school district.

I’m voting for Diaz and Mandel.

I actually switched from independent voter to democrat so I could vote in the primary and will voting this way as well. We need change, and these are the only two I trust to implement it.

That's nice, but I predict those two will loose big. It's basically a wasted vote.

DP

Meh, it’ll count as a protest vote. No vote is wasted.

Nah, your vote definitely is wasted. Protest vote? Couldn’t roll my eyes harder.

Knock yourself out with rolling your eyes. You have no say in how anyone votes.

DP-they never said they did, did they? Maybe reading comprehension (on top of everything else) isn't your strong suite. Keep voting for the idiots you relate with, it all makes sense now.

You would get to vote for the BOE in the primary even as an unaffiliated voter.

A little late for that now.

Meetings should be more frequent, more efficient and everyone comes prepared! Members need to devote full time to this gig! Oh that CO, staff from same departments can not even agree and there's inconsistent messages when have had to contact them unfortunately.

Something significant must have been occupying a lot of central office staff time and attention over the last several months.
