Assume you are OOB for LT? Surprised the waitlist for PK4 isn't longer. Both are good options, are you already at Payne or just now getting in?

Yes, OOB for L-T. We are at another school on the Hill right now for PK3.

I thought I sent this comment earlier. Sorry if it is a repeat. Are you IB for Payne? From our experience, at that age the proximity makes a really big difference. Both for kid friendships, community walking to school, and it builds community among adults too. Besides both being good schools, that could be an additional perk. Not sure if this is the case at all schools, but I know there are parents who do book clubs, some play on a soccer team, do happy hours , etc. Obviously some parents choose not to get that involved with the community, but I think living closer to other families that you see every day is a plus.

You sent it earlier, I just missed it and responded late. Not, IB for Payne, but it's closer than L-T, which is 10 min drive but not walkable. I agree with you about the community aspect of living close to the school.

Is it possible to know how many seats a school has made available in this lottery? (Specifically, we are number 46 on the waitlist for Hardy, and the school made 47 offers for 25 seats in '23-'24.)

Don't want to keep my hopes up if they aren't actually offering any seats this year.

We're 45! I think there are equity seats this year, so maybe they'll get not quite as far down the waitlist?

Anyone know when the waitlist data/seats available spreadsheet will be updated? Curious to compare my waitlist number/seats available to prior years

Seeking feedback and guidance about their preK programs and whether it’s preferable to continue fostering Spanish/English bilingualism (which we speak at home) or exposure to a third language (Mandarin) which we don’t speak at all.
Which program would you choose and why? Thank you!!!

what's the commute like to them?

Hardy is over enrolled this year. I doubt they’ll take a lot of kids from the wait list.

I’m genuinely curious how does it work - why does the school make 47 offers for 25 seats when they are packed?

Currently at MV for kindergarten and have been less than satisfied.

Thoughts about the following for 1st+?

-Marie Reed - Dual (English Dominant): Offered
-Stokes Spanish: #2
-Oyster: #9
-Bancroft: #8

You got an offer for Marie Reed dual language? Take it. That school is awesome (have friends there who switched from another dual language program and have been thrilled, also the school has a great swimming program which is a wonderful bonus).

I’ve heard good things, but didn’t know about the swimming. That’s great. Stokes has been #1 on our list for the past four years, although I’m not sure if we could get in at 1st grade even being second on the waitlist.

Because people turn down the offers.

And school enrollment isn’t linear. You want to keep each grade at a number that works out to reasonable class sizes. Sometimes it’s better to cut back. Sometimes it’s better to go up and add a class, especially at a school like Hardy where most kids have to be admitted because they have boundary/feeder rights.

Incoming PK3 student

#1 Tyler waitlisted 29 (6 min commute)
#2 Payne waitlisted 31 (6 min commute)
#3 Capitol Hill Montessori MATCH (14 min commute)

I think you should get comfortable with chml for next year and decide how long you want to stay (depends on your in bounds options and how the lottery goes next year). I know several happy families at chml.

#11 waitlist at Tyler- Spanish Dominant
#4 waitlist at Bruce Monroe- Spanish Dominant
#33 waitlist Marie Reed Spanish Dominant
#47 waitlist Bancroft Spanish Dominant

I’m honestly shocked that we waitlisted at Tyler. Last year they didn’t even fill their Spanish dominant seats…

In the past year a lot of Spanish dominant children have arrived in DC.

You can't get in at both. That's how the system works.

My kid got neither.

Someone could get waitlisted at their first choice, in at their second choice, and then get off the waitlist.
