Is it possible to know how many seats a school has made available in this lottery? (Specifically, we are number 46 on the waitlist for Hardy, and the school made 47 offers for 25 seats in '23-'24.) Don't want to keep my hopes up if they aren't actually offering any seats this year.
Hardy is over enrolled this year. I doubt they’ll take a lot of kids from the wait list.
I’m genuinely curious how does it work - why does the school make 47 offers for 25 seats when they are packed?
Because people turn down the offers. And school enrollment isn’t linear. You want to keep each grade at a number that works out to reasonable class sizes. Sometimes it’s better to cut back. Sometimes it’s better to go up and add a class, especially at a school like Hardy where most kids have to be admitted because they have boundary/feeder rights.
