Less than 4 on the wait-list for janney, Lafayette, and mann, all closer. 7 at Sheppard (7 minute drive)

We like our elementary but would like to lock in middle school

Congrats! You got an extremely good lottery number !

I wish there was a way to tell if our child was going to get in at BOTH Walls and Banneker but realized how many people aren’t getting either. I hope everyone finds solace after all of this is over.

You can't get in at both. That's how the system works.

My kid got neither.

We pulled our kid last year 2 months in. It was chaotic. Not a good experience. The teachers were sweet but overwhelmed.

Anonymous wrote:Thoughts on Payne vs L-T? In at Payne for PK4, waitlist #11 for L-T.

Assume you are OOB for LT? Surprised the waitlist for PK4 isn't longer. Both are good options, are you already at Payne or just now getting in?

Yes, OOB for L-T. We are at another school on the Hill right now for PK3.

I thought I sent this comment earlier. Sorry if it is a repeat. Are you IB for Payne? From our experience, at that age the proximity makes a really big difference. Both for kid friendships, community walking to school, and it builds community among adults too. Besides both being good schools, that could be an additional perk. Not sure if this is the case at all schools, but I know there are parents who do book clubs, some play on a soccer team, do happy hours , etc. Obviously some parents choose not to get that involved with the community, but I think living closer to other families that you see every day is a plus.

For a Spanish Dominant PK3 student..

#11 waitlist at Tyler- Spanish Dominant
#4 waitlist at Bruce Monroe- Spanish Dominant
#33 waitlist Marie Reed Spanish Dominant
#47 waitlist Bancroft Spanish Dominant

I’m honestly shocked that we waitlisted at Tyler. Last year they didn’t even fill their Spanish dominant seats…

Anonymous wrote:Anyone interview at SWW and get rejected/WL’ed?

Interviewed at Banneker and got ineligible. Interviewed at Walls and waitlisted over 70. Know other folks who had interviews and were ineligible at both.

This is interesting to me. So the schools are clearly viewing the same student differently. Each school sees the same grades and teacher recs. The writing sample and interview are different for each school. Also the student could be having a better day and perform better I guess.

I wonder which school accepted or waitlisted a higher percentage of the kids interviewed.

Payne and L-T are both on the Hill. You’re in the same community if you go to either of them.

Are you in bounds for one of those Hill schools for kindergarten? If not, I would take the spot you got at Peabody or try for LT

nah, we're in bound for Miner. Which, honestly, seems totally fine despite allllll the drama. (But not trying to get into that here.)

Main concern of ours is the feeling (rumor?) that a lot of families bail after K at Peabody. Is that founded? Or just nonsense? We're local so all these schools are easy bike ride, no issue there. Just wanna give the kiddo the most stable path possible.

I'm in bounds for miner and would take Peabody or try for LT. Your odds will be worse if you wait and try for Kindergarten.

+1, especially because it sounds like you got a good lottery draw this year (19 OOB for LT for PK4 speaks to a very good number) and take it from a lottery veteran-- sometimes that only happens once.

Same all around.

Almost. One A- in 7th grade. Excellent extracurriculars. DC is still sleeping and I am dreading giving the news.

I have an elementary kid, so not paying attention. Does this mean the Walls cut off for interviews was 4.0?!

No, but it does mean 4.0 kids still get rejected.

Waitlisted #44 for basis. Data suggests that every previous year we would get an offer with this number. Any reason to think this year would be different?
