No one knew this would happen (TO etc.) The other really scary thing is by the time the EA's came in full of deferrals and rejections, it was too late to apply to more safeties. The stress is indescribable.

So where is the 3.4-3.8 crowd going to end up this year? (because that is the majority of the rising junior class as well). Is it really as dire as it might appear so far (lots of this group with no options? I am happy to write to the school but I have such a hard time figuring this out and what is true and what is hyperbole on both sides of things. SCOIR does not support top50 admits below a 3.7 and elite admits below a 3.9 aside from a few lesser Ivy admits last year. I'm not sure the junior parents even know this although they all have access to SCOIR. They keep flying their 3.7 kids all over the country to see top 30 schools. I don't get it and keep wondering what I am missing. Does hope really spring that eternal? When does reality set in? Can a senior parent please share? I guess none of you really know as regular decision is not out yet.

People can tour whatever schools they like without any explanations. We are also a Junior parent and our tours probably don’t make sense to anyone else either.

What is your thinking behind them?

They throw tantrums and spread rumors about other kids and their families to get a leg up. It’s embarrassing that people act this way, and that society doesn’t punish behavior like this anymore. Can we bring back social consequences for being a jerk?

Sorry, charlie/charlene didn’t get in. The school can change some things yes, but probably also your child wasn’t a good fit.

NCS college counseling is fine.

Huh? This is so confusing. I have been reading this thread and I do not see anyone spreading rumors about any families? People are posting their experiences some are current seniors. Are you saying they would lie?
Are you okay? You sound unstable.

Previous posters have sited specific schools that some of the class has been rumored to have gotten into and then decided to announce/speculate if they are hooked. This is very inappropriate. This is all still playing out. Better to look at data from previous year. I'm glad those posts were removed. These are teen girls, and highly identifiable.

I agree and I did not post anything about anyone being hooked. Don’t really know to be honest and also don’t know the GPAs of my daughters friends. They don’t discuss it.

I will say though if you have a kid in the dmv getting into an Ivy people will discuss it and whether they are hooked so people should get thicker skinned. I don’t like it but it happens so if your kid is hooked people will mention it.

People may discuss it in person but no one should be discussing it on a public online forum. How would you like to see strangers discussing your daughter and speculating about her qualifications? This thread not only discussed Ivy acceptances/speculation but also girls admitted to other “less competitive” colleges and named those schools. It is unacceptable behavior and hopefully it is removed each time so the individuals doing it will finally stop.

I posted some info about accepted schools and I don’t even have a DD in the class. The info is on their public IG page. It’s not a secret. Calm down.

In recent years at NCS there have been 3.9 girls who have "run the table" on top10 admits during RD and no one below them has gotten in. I think something similar has happened at Sidwell. This is why some schools (GDS) restrict kids from applying to more than 3 reaches (and every top 10 school is considered a reach).

Nothing like this happened at Sidwell where it affected other students. Sidwell consistently sends students with <3.9 GPAs to top 10/20 colleges. Sidwell and NCS/GDS are not the same.

I have children in early and mid elementary at another private and I’ve anecdotally heard that where parents went to college is becoming much more important at BVR and NCS than before. Wondering if this is why…college admissions are so fraught they need the double ivy legacies as early as K and 3rd. So depressing to feel that where I went to school can limit an 8-year-old!

Oh come on it’s important at all the schools are you kidding? Sidwell Is notorious for this!

I will add I know many parents at Beauvoir and NCS and the parents did not go to what some consider top schools. In fact a few of the parents didn’t even go to school at all (gasp). Their kids will be the first in their family to go to college which I think is awesome.

It is awesome and they will benefit greatly from being “first gen”.

Why are you concerned? Worry about yourself and your family.

There are so many threads along these lines about NCS that the school must specialize in martyrdom.

There is a handful of complainers. As Jeff noted in a thread a couple of months ago, one person was pretending to be many different people. So bizarre.

Thank God for that!

There are threads about every school right now. Someone just rebooted a 26 year old thread about sta.

For current parents in the know, are the girls getting shut out of top 50 national universities and are girls doing better with SLACS? Or are SLACS falling out of favor? Always heard SLACS better understand the deflated grades.
