Until every child gets straight A's we won't have achieved equity!

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Equity - everyone does what they can and the government gives them what it believes they need. But it totally not Marxism.

Simple mind, simple definition. But you be you.
OK, how do you define equity?

Equity is the process to reach equality.
Equity is an attempt to overcome decades or centuries of institutional discrimination.
And that process requires an authority (the state in this case) to redistribute resources in a discriminatory manner. And there is no institutional discrimination. So equity is simply discriminatory retribution.

There were 350 years of legal, systemic discrimination. You think someone waved a magic want and erased all the effects of that history? Wow.

You are not 350 years old. You were raised in an affluent, upper middle-class household who always expected you to go to college. You are not a victim.

No person alive today is responsible for history.

None of you have actually read Marx.

Throwing around terms like "redistribution" and "retribution" is fun for the armchair revolutionary that you imagine yourself to be. It is poison for a society.

Further ore, you want to talk about your grandma? I go to church with her. She thinks this is some bullshit.

They didn't use a wand. They used a scroll called The Civil Rights Act of 1964. Since then we've had actual institutional racism aka affirmative action. Thankfully that was made illegal by the Supreme Court. Do I think there are a handful of racists still out there doing bad things? Sure. And they should be dealt with accordingly. Do I think the system should be dismantled and rebuilt using equity? No. That's insane, illiberal and destructive to western civilization. At some point, we need to call out the real culprit of black failure, the glorification of poor black culture. All poor culture is terrible. But no other races' por culture is glorified like poor black culture.

What other group in this country has experienced legalized slavery and permanent third class treatment??...See in your mind that was centuries ago. Well my grandmother lived Jim Crow as did a lot of other elderly Black people. No book needed to explain anything. People are still here that lived it. Inspire of all the horrors, Black people have not only survived but thrived in the country built for "free". Maybe you should take 50 lashes for simply trying to learn to read. Better yet give your life to cast a ballot. Maybe you celebrate all those atrocities like Black people celebrate poverty.......
What does any of that have to do with the price of tea in China?

Tea growers were discriminated against via the Chinese Exclusion Act. Not just Africans. Native Americans were screwed, too. Equal opportunity, legal, systemic discrimination.

This is correct. Many groups have been discriminated against in the past. Hopefully we now know better. If so, we know that everyone deserves equal opportunities. Right now with the current system, everyone is being held back while we wait for kids to catch-up. Although the opportunity should be there, nobody is guaranteed equal outcomes and that seems to be where there is confusion. Having low expectations for all in school so that everyone graduates, but learns very little is not what is best for our society as a whole. Standards should be high and we should be helping ALL children to reach those high expectations. If there’s something holding a particular group back, we should address it directly with that group. Kids who struggle might need a resource class to teach study skills, etc…

It's your job as a parent to set expectations for your kids. Plenty of MCPS kids go on to Ivy+ schools. MCPS' job is to meet all the kids where they are, not where you wish they were.

Yes! Everyone should do what they can and get what they need. Right? Right?!?

reading comprehension fail.
I was defining equity (which is MCPS's prime directive) which is exactly what "MCPS' job is to meet all the kids where they are" means. Do you not agree with my definition of equity?

Nah, you were paraphrasing Marx.
No! Equity isn't Marxism. Equity is everyone doing what they can and getting what they need.

DCUM gonna DCUM.

Wow.

Maybe you haven't been paying attention but MCPS doesn't meet kids where they are. They meet them at the lowest possible common denominator because of equity.

I wish all the parents could see their kids in action…. The state of education is atrocious. It’s so depressing. I used to love teaching…. I dread it every single day now. Trust me… no one is giving out As. Parents don’t care either. “Why are you calling me?” Maybe bc your child just beat up a kid in my classroom and told me to eff off. It’s literally just a babysitting gig at this point. I cannot wait to quit at the end of this year. The future is bleak as someone else already pointed out.
