Indeed. Perhaps the pendulum will swing from 'crowning' obvious candidates to selecting less obvious candidates. This would be a good thing. |
The ANC districts were gerrymandered to try to give less influence to single family home owners. |

Can someone post Frumin’s talking points on voucher problems?
The problem is that you can’t put the people placed through Housing First in the cross hairs bc of a huge systemic problem in the government. We are not seeing the forest for the trees.
So I just looked into Housing First. It’s a DC-based national nonprofit that advocates for ending homelessness by placing people in apartments. They do not worry about wraparound services. I think this is where people need to direct action as well. Who doesn’t want to end homelessness? The city has made strides, but look at all the unintended consequences. A city as wealthy as DC needs to start funding whatever comes second and third.
It's a HUD program. There can be no conditions placed on recipient for participation in services. They do not even need to open the door to social worker. HUD only requires 2 contacts from a social worker per month, 1 in person. More here https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2023/08/08/dc-paid-housing-chronic-homelessness/ and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Housing_First There is a high rate of death by OD once people are isolated in apartments. There is not any effective addressing of the underlying mental illness and addiction that burned through social relationships so people ended up on street, or those that choose street party/tents/fent atmosphere over a 9-5.
Nothing can happen without strong anti drug programs and support for parents including preK.
This is the pp. Thank you to whomever posted the links. As I’m reading and learning about the theories behind these programs, I just want to clarify that I agree with the theory that people should not have to be “perfect” to be in the program, but instead I meant that we need to ramp up our “look the other way” reactions to drug use and our support for young families.
One way to address this is to limit the distribution of vouchers -- meaning have a cap on how many voucher holders can reside in any given building. This is done is mixed income housing where a certain percentage might be subsidized but it is capped to prevent creating "projects." This isn't happening with this program and so the voucher program is bringing instability and crime. Also, there is no real vetting re: crime, mental illness, etc. My theory is that the Connecticut Ave buildings now have capacity as the wharf, Navy Yard attracted younger residents. Landlords took the vouchers to help reduce excess capacity. It's lucrative in the short term for them. |
A recall campaign can be initiated beginning January. People here should walk the walk and sign a petition when the time comes. |
Sign me up. |
| We need viable candidates, and not too many so the vote is not split. |
X100. Happy to see the recall frumin signs in AU Park. |

Have you supported the ranked voting initiative? It addresses this issue in DC exactly. I would love to hear people's opinions on it. Benefits and unintended consequences. Will it get reasonable people in office, or GGW types and even more ultra progressives, shudder? |

The above was posted on Reddit. Comments asked if this was The Brandywine. The police report for the incident that is the subject of the thread stated that 2 females, known to one another, got into a fight and stabbed one another in the back. (Literally.) Both refused transport to the hospital. So, could, in fact, have been The Brandywine his mom lives in. Plenty of other options in Connecticut and Wisconsin corridors but there is a lot of violence INSIDE The Brandywine. Used to be so many Murch families. |

^Further down OP clarifies that it is in fact, a building in Cathedral Heights, 4400 Massachusetts, NW.
I had a friend move out of that formerly SUPER quiet building. During covid they had a series of daytime burglaries WHILE people were working remotely from home. People would frequently try the doorknob. The buildings in that area used to have even more elderly than Forest Hills, FH always had more families because of proximity to Murch, Deal and Wilson/JR. https://4000massaveapts.net/ The building touting the "suburban feel" of the neighborhood is a bit ironic given how urban it can feel in the building and outside the lovely new Giant. |
