Didn’t that happen 14 years ago?

Here is a quote about NEU from a profile last year:

Northeastern University has been notorious for gaming the rankings. They introduced programs where students who tend to have lower grades study away for a semester or a year. Because those students aren’t going directly to the university, their statistics are not included in the ranking data.

Boston Magazine did a profile in 2014 all about NEU gaming the rankings.

Gaming is subjective claim.
The magazine basically says NEU played by the rules while there were schools that actually cheated (i.e. Emory).
With that 'gaming', NEU now beats Emroy in every major metrics.

On the other hand, Emory flat out cheated for more than 10 years like the magazine noted, and got caught bloody-handed.
It was just 10 years ago. What about gaming when there are real cheater schools like these, Emory, Berkeley, Columbia, etc.

SHAMELESS

By the way again, Emory sends lower stat kids to Oxford for 2 years.

And those Oxford students are still better than Northeastern students.

And you are wrong.

Graduated from Emory a few years ago. It does well pretty much everywhere and exceptionally well in particular areas. Nursing, pre-professional (especially law and, of course, medicine), consulting, and finance are areas of particular strength. Emory is a top target for prestigious firms in the south, obviously being the best name regionally for roles in Atlanta, but also has a massive alumni presence in New York City (this is where I live, as well as the plurality of my peers I graduated with).

It’s a beautiful campus with terrific, esteemed professors, and resources are in line with what you’d expect from a T25 school, though some complain that the career center at the business school is of a higher caliber than that of the college. Social life is mostly centered around downtown Atlanta, and there is a Greek life presence but it’s not really pervasive in my experience. Student body is quite diverse but I find that most are jack-of-all-trades types who are masters of some, rather than students with a definite affinity for a particular area of study, reflected in a liberal arts approach and lots of academic freedom.

Downsides are a lack of sports and fanatic school spirit some will want. CS and adjacent stem fields are not a strong suit, though I’ve still seen several of my peers work at FAANG and similar companies in technical roles. It’s also important to know that it is not in downtown Atlanta but really in a nearby suburb. While a car odd absolutely not needed (I didn’t have one) it can be handy.

Why did Northeastern drop 10 spots in the rankings?

They put several mediocre publics higher like Rutgers, Ohio State, UGA, Texas A&M etc.
Has zero impact.

So if mediocre publics are ranked higher…that makes NEU worse than mediocre?

We all have trouble following your logic.

Only if you religiously believe in the magazine ranking.
No wonder why Emory is a such a cheater school obsessed with the magazine ranking.

You were the one who brought up all the "mediocre" schools ranked higher than NEU.

You stepped in it...now we will see you try to jam that train into reverse.

Top 3 Public Health. Top 5 Nursing. Top 15 Undergrad B School. Lots of top programs. A vibrant international city. Airport that can take you almost anywhere in a direct flight. An academic institution, not a football factory. A middle sized student body in a beautiful suburban setting.

Not sure what else is desired.

Emory is a great school. It is filled to the brim with NY/NJ/CT prep school kids that had good grades, but were just edged out from the Ivies/T10 by their classmates.

There will be a lot of kids saying "I really wanted Yale/Columbia/Penn/Duke/Brown and Emory was my backup."

Nevertheless, most kids are very happy there and it's a very highly-respected school.

I think that it is good that Emory has an alternative quasi-community college attached to it so lower stat kids can get in.

As for cheating on US News, yeah it's unfortunate, but no one cares about US News rankings since they changed their metrics to make social equity more important than the academic quality of the students.

Actually Oxfords Test scores are slightly higher. Median ACT is 34 vs Emorys 33. Emorys GPA avg is slightly higher.

We still care about US news, but Emory has always ranked well, and Northeastern has never been T40.
