I don’t have a kid at either school and live in MD. I disagree that Emory is more prestigious that UVA, it’s pretty easy to get into Emory ED1, over 30 percent acceptance rate, but UVA oos is around 15 percent for ED. Further, UVA is far more popular as it offers a more complete college experience, with ACC sports. In fact, Emory lags behind similarly sized schools in number of applications received.

How many schools does Emory lag behind with 35k apps? Also Emory has 2 rounds of ED while the schools you're comparing it to only have one. Looking at Every school with 2 rounds of ED, the ED1 acceptance rate is much larger than the other 2. That includes schools like UChicago. What is important is that the majority of Emory students can get into UVa, but the reverse can't be said. Emory has higher test scores, higher GPA avgs, wealthier students, and historically a higher ranking, most people consider that more prestigious.

UVA gets 44,000 oos applicants alone. Similarlu sized Vandy had over 47,000 applications last cycle.

And Georgetown had 26k apps, Dartmouth had 31k apps, MIT 28k, Tufts 34k, Tulane 30k, Notre Dame 30k, WashU 33k. So it seems like Emory is doing just fine. Other than Tulane all of these schools are harder to get into than Uva despite having less applications.

Most of these schools are half or less the size of Emory.

Georgetown and Notre Dame are bigger. Washu, Tulane, Tufts and Emory are all.around the same size. Why are you lying? What do you have against Emory?

They are definitely the best shot for a kid who really cares about attending a top school but doesn’t particularly care about fun.

Emory is fun for the type of student Emory selects. Emory and WashU don't select any high stat kid, they want students that will enjoy what they have to offer. If you're a student that wants a rah rah atmosphere, They adcoms can figure that out and reject you.
