Reasonable fraternity scene on campus for a school of this academic caliber. Vibrant arts and robust on campus activities are the norm. Ever heard of the city of Atlanta? Just a few things to do there. |
We visited, the quirky and not social rep seems well earned. |

Oxford is not a quasi community college - it’s a small rural LAC. It’s actually a pretty cool option to be able to have smaller community for two years and then the bigger campus.
Emory itself is in a pretty, leafy Atlanta suburb a few miles from downtown. It’s a pretty and well financed University with some excellent programs and really great med/public health things. As has been noted, there aren’t real rah-rah sports. But it’s a great school. |
Emory doesn't fell quickly to me. Niche, yes quirky not so much. Rice,Tufts are quirky. |
Not true. My high stats kid got in. Chose UVA Echols instead. |
You're proving pp's point. Your child had to be good enough to receive a scholarship to UVA to get a regular acceptance to Emory. |
Echols is not a scholarship. Do your research. Also your logic is wrong. |
I’m pp. Echols is a scholar designation that comes with benefits. The previous poster stated UVA students could not get into Emory. And as I stated my kid did. She chose UVA. Move on. |
| There's many reasons to choose Emory over UVa. One many here are not from Virginia. DC and I are in Maryland. 2 UVa really isn't seen as prestigious as Emory, although close UVa is a half step below. 3 some students prefer or need smaller schools. |
Still proving PP's point. |
You cannot tell that from visiting. |
I love UVA/went to UVA. This is dumb unless money is an issue. Emory and UVA not in same class. Emory every time. |
I don’t have a kid at either school and live in MD. I disagree that Emory is more prestigious that UVA, it’s pretty easy to get into Emory ED1, over 30 percent acceptance rate, but UVA oos is around 15 percent for ED. Further, UVA is far more popular as it offers a more complete college experience, with ACC sports. In fact, Emory lags behind similarly sized schools in number of applications received. |
Sure you can. |
How many schools does Emory lag behind with 35k apps? Also Emory has 2 rounds of ED while the schools you're comparing it to only have one. Looking at Every school with 2 rounds of ED, the ED1 acceptance rate is much larger than the other 2. That includes schools like UChicago. What is important is that the majority of Emory students can get into UVa, but the reverse can't be said. Emory has higher test scores, higher GPA avgs, wealthier students, and historically a higher ranking, most people consider that more prestigious. |
