Maybe true three years ago but Columbia has has a rough couple of years. |
That does not make Duke above Columbia. Harvard also has been rough for the last couple years, but it is still number 1, above Princeton, no matter what US news says. |
| How could it? |
You couldn’t pay me enough for me to send my kids to Columbia these days. |
I agree. I would definitely choose Duke over Columbia these days. |
Except some of the Cs should be in the Bs. Some of the Bs Should be in the As. Some of the 1s should be in the 2s. Some of the 2s should be in the 3s. Some of the 3s should be in the 2s. I agree with 1A however. |
| Oops, no Cs! |
And I suspect a majority of 18 years would make the same choice today. Columbia has always seemed like a stressful place that catered to a small group of students that really wanted to live in NY City. But after the past couple of years, I think the pool of students that want to go to Columbia has shrunk dramatically. No 18 year old wants all the noise and stress and the constant feeling of walking on eggshells that comes with the Columbia experience today. Duke seems infinitely more appealing to the vast majority of smart kids. |
No student cares about any of the things you are talking about. “Walking on eggshells” translates to not being a d*** and just being expressive about social causes-which students these days dont and won’t shut up about. Speculations on things we know to be false (less students interested in Columbia) is a waste of time for everyone involved. |
+1 Rankings can be gamed. The colleges with a better ability to game the rankings win. 🥇 Everyone gets a trophy. 🏆 |

“Rankings can be gamed. The colleges with a better ability to game the rankings win.”
The specialty of way too many private institutions. |
And those boring drones who follow the sound of the shrillest voice from the loudest bullhorn will aim for Columbia. |
I guess you haven’t been listening to the many Jewish students at Columbia who are nervous attending classes. Columbia will certainly fill its smallish freshman class with qualified students, but I’m sure its applications will fall for those who are uncomfortable with what’s been happening there. Your remarks are a bit naive. |
Bitter grumbling from a public university grad who couldn’t get into a good private institution |
Nothing naive about confronting the reality that most Jewish students are fine at Columbia-many are protestors, some were even arrested. Not everyone is obsessed with Zionism, especially today’s kids. They’ve continued to have record apps and low acceptance rates- seems you’re the one whose naive |
