Disagree with PP about the impact on Asians, generally in our community they still aim for the same schools regardless of year-to-year shifts. Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Penn, Duke, Columbia, are the ones I see are very popular and highly desirable amongst Asians in our area.
HYPSM, yes. Duke and Wharton, too. Not Columbia. Asians have always seen it Columbia as a fake, a backup school for stidents who couldn't get into actual elite schools. They are even more skeptical now that Columbia has been caught faking all its numbers.
Which Asian group do you belong? I know Korean, Chinese, and Japanese communities treate Columbia just below HYP, above Penn, absolutely above Duke.
There is no one who is picking duke over Columbia unless it's for basketball.
You couldn’t pay me enough for me to send my kids to Columbia these days.
I agree. I would definitely choose Duke over Columbia these days.
And I suspect a majority of 18 years would make the same choice today. Columbia has always seemed like a stressful place that catered to a small group of students that really wanted to live in NY City. But after the past couple of years, I think the pool of students that want to go to Columbia has shrunk dramatically. No 18 year old wants all the noise and stress and the constant feeling of walking on eggshells that comes with the Columbia experience today. Duke seems infinitely more appealing to the vast majority of smart kids.
No student cares about any of the things you are talking about. “Walking on eggshells” translates to not being a d*** and just being expressive about social causes-which students these days dont and won’t shut up about. Speculations on things we know to be false (less students interested in Columbia) is a waste of time for everyone involved.
I guess you haven’t been listening to the many Jewish students at Columbia who are nervous attending classes. Columbia will certainly fill its smallish freshman class with qualified students, but I’m sure its applications will fall for those who are uncomfortable with what’s been happening there. Your remarks are a bit naive.
