+1 to all of this. Disney used to be magical. Tnow it feels grossly expensive, the resorts are worn out, and it feels like they’re constantly nickel and diming. That said, you can still have an amazing vacation if you pony up. We went several times this year (unusual for us but different opportunities presented themselves) and the difference between staying at the four seasons and even a deluxe Disney hotel was vast. Four seasons (since it’s offsite which I found nicer and more relaxing, and has Disney perks like early entry), “less crowded” times and lightening lanes are the way you need to do Disney to make it a magical and enjoyable trip. Just $$$. But amazing with young kids. They are entertained, there’s a ton going on, I can let them be kids and take them to restaurants, etc. |
The four seasons isn’t really off-site. It’s right next to the dog boarding place and is technically in Golden Oak. |
Parents who won’t take their kids to Disney because they only want to go on more sophisticated vacations are selfish. And ironically, often end up raising “Disney adults” who are making up for lost time. |
That's insane! You don't need to sacrifice everything for your kids. I routinely do things for myself and funnel my kids unto something cheaper. As a parent I should be able to enjoy my life too. Kids aren't owed a Disney vacation. I tell my kids all the time if they don't like the accommodations they've got a chance to fix it when they're grown and working. |
That’s not me. I have never travelled internationally with my family. And we don’t go to Disney multiple times per year. Imagine that - there’s more than one of us who love Disney! |
Yes, I selfishly choose other vacations over Disney because we can’t afford to do both. They’re not “sophisticated” trips and my kids have a lot of fun. We swim in lakes and explore castle ruins, we eat different foods and hang out at playgrounds. We sit outside at night and the kids run around and play on the piazzas. I like being in other countries and it’s enjoyable for the kids. My in laws only vacation at Disney and are scared of the rest of the world. They think kids can only like Disney and possibly the beach. If we had extra funds I would have taken my kids to Disney once, most of my overseas relatives have actually been to Disney World. But we don’t, so we choose what we like. OP, so sorry it was a bad experience. But you’ve done it, so now you don’t have to do it again. |
You’re an a$$hole with a point. Congrats. |
I’ve never been to Disney and don’t plan on taking my kids ever. Too expensive and I don’t like crowds. My kids are 10 and 13. |
And that’s 100% fine! Take a lesson anti Disney doüchebags - you can state your reasons for not liking it without trying to cut down those who do. It’s not hard. |
Exactly! |
NP. Well, yeah -- but good luck getting reservations. We are going in October and haven't been able to. And fwiw, there are two: Victoria and Albert's at the Grand Floridian and Toledo at Disney Springs. |
Sure! I don’t like Disney because it is full of pathetic Disney Adults with Peter Pan Syndrome. |
Aaah I see what you did there! So clever you are! |
I listed a lot of excellent restaurants at WDW. |
I am a Disney hater but there is decent, if overpriced, food to be had there. I do resent when my company holds meetings there, because Disney itself is awful and we could be in a real food city like New Orleans. |
