Ready to be done with Disney

I think it's relatively easy to do a Disney vacation without extreme expense. Their value resorts are quite good and meals (non-table service) are cheaper and bigger than counter service meals off-site. Yes, park tickets are $100+ a day and you want to add on Genie Plus, etc. to take advantage of reduced lines, but I find entertaining my kids all day on non-Disney vacations often adds up to a similar cost.

Never took my kids to Disney and they are 30 and 31. We opted to vacation in Europe.. They survived.

I took my 6yo DS for spring break and was surprised at how disappointed I was. I felt like I spent the entire day on that dang app trying to plan our day in two hour blocks. Maybe during one the less crowded weeks it would be more fun.

When my kids asked me about going to Disney I have told them it will never happen. We go to Dutch Wonderland once a year and when they age out of that we'll go to Hershey Park. My husband is on the same page.

That’s us! Why does it blow your mind? We love everything about it. We stay at a luxury hotel (club level) and have a blast at the parks. It’s our happy place. We’ve taken other vacations with the kids but they don’t have nearly as much fun as they do at Disney. They’re 14 & 16 now and we’ve been going routinely for about the last 12 years.

Because my time, money, and patience is limited. If you’ve got plenty of those three then I’m sure frequent Disney trips are just peachy. Unfortunately that isn’t my reality.

Try Disneyland. It’s much calmer than Disney World, even in the summer.

Yes, that was me! I’d walk up to restaurant to check-in for reservations and they’d say check-in on the app even though I am standing right here. Then - because I didn’t check-in on time (20 minutes before using the app) we’d have to wait!!!

At stores - you check out using the app. That is fine - but I remember they used to make such a fuss and make everything so fun - jokes with the kids, giving them attention.

Now it was just - go to the app.

The app sucks! I was there yesterday. Won't be back! Way too much money for a shitty experience.

That's what I've heard from several friends. More visitors are locals who go frequently; it's not a once-in-a-lifetime trip for as many people, so it's a more relaxed atmosphere.

Love WDW. I wish more people would stay away. We don’t stay onsite.

This is us too even though I never thought it would be. My kids looooove coasters. We also go to Hershey a couple times a year. For us, we treat disney like other UMC families treat a ski weekend or beach weekend — we go a long weekend in the winter as a quick get away. My oldest hates sand and skiing so this works for us. Disney is now adding really hot new coasters pretty much every year now so it keeps pulling us back. The guardians ride is really phenomenal. My kids have never had any interest in the characters but disney just does amusement parks really well. They also like the animals at AK.

We have a high HHI and can afford it but I cannot justify the money to go stand in a line.

I find it depressing that the entire experience is tied to your phone. Everyone's phones are out the whole time, whether it's for the app, taking pictures or videos, scrolling while they are waiting in line or eating. Like a Black Mirror episode.

I think it is great.

I have never been, but, like cruises, it is good to have a place that corrals huge numbers of people with too much money and no culture in one place, thus keeping them confined and away from decent folk.

Same I know a family that spends close to 20K per year at Disney. I don't get it.

Everyone has a different idea of fun for vacation. Some people spend $20k ar Disney, and others pay that same amount to rent some huge ocean front beach house for a week. Why judge?

+1

I’d rather have a battery acid enema than spend a week at the beach. My idea of hell.

To each his own!
