So avoid the metro except for maybe the silver line? Reread your post, it’s just saying to drive instead of metro. |
You seriously think it's impossible to ride Metro daily without witnessing a crime? I don't know how valuable anecdotal evidence is here, but for what it's worth, I also have never seen a real crime on Metro, in more than 20 years of more or less daily commuting. |
I'm kind of lol-ing at all of the posts about public transit from posters who hate the public, hate transit, and never use public transit. I've never played golf, I don't see the point of golf, I think that golf is probably a force of evil in the world on net, I think I'm going to go post on all of the threads related to golf on DCUM. |
We get it. You enjoy your daily rides with the serial masturbators on the trains while on your way to work every morning. Many of us who are sane though would rather drive than be subjected to that kind of entertainment on a regular basis. |
GOLF! I HATE GOLF! GOLF IS TERRIBLE! BAD GOLF! BAD GOLF! BAD! -you, except about public transportation |
It's really cute that you think that the PP is going to engage in self-reflection about their rabid hatred of public transportation. They're not looking to have a conversation, they just desperately want to feel superior to you. |
I'm the PP you're responding to, and I don't have any expectations about their self-reflection. I just like typing in capital letters.
|
Do you consider smoking a joint a crime? If so, I don't know how you can ride metro much and not see/smell it. |
Commuting hours and off peak hours are a completely different ballgame on the metro so that’s probably how. Not PP, but I commuted on it for a few years and it was just workers going about their business. I only ever saw weird behavior on weekends and it was still pretty uncommon. I don’t take it much anymore (no commute) but it’s always fine when I do. My spouse still commutes and has not witnessed crime. |
DP. I regularly witness crimes while I'm driving, specifically impaired driving and reckless driving, which could seriously injure or kill me. |

Thought of this thread.
Metro Passenger Dies After Trying to Ride On Top of Train https://mocoshow.com/blog/metro-passenger-dies-after-trying-to-ride-on-top-of-train/?fbclid=IwAR2QQS6QlOmKILf9jNaq3e1CJ-CeqwuSqZ3Tw61Zg9aMyAxh_qlxSWKFQgg I stopped riding the metro to work about 18 years ago. I hardly ride it anymore. I tend to read stuff online and roll my eyes thinking people just exaggerate so much. My daughter rode the metro into DC the other day and I picked her up at night (from the suburbs no less!). Gotta admit - the people hanging around the metro station were skeevy. Did not feel comfortable at all. Ended up riding the metro last week. Haven't been on the metro in years. Was surprised how not clean it looked. I didn't see anyone evade the fares so there is that. But one or two of my fellow riders - weird, weird, weird behavior. Anti-social behavior. Does this mean I've fully embraced the Karen from the suburbs vibe? Because, I don't want to be in a close car with anti-social behavior. What the heck is going on? |
Honestly? Yeah, probably. I'm commuting on the metro four days/week, as well as pretty frequent off-peak rides, and have been for the past 15 years or so. Aside from farebeaters being a bit more common, riding feels just as safe as it did when I was a fresh-faced college grad. In any event, it's an order of magnitude safer than driving. I guess it's all about your personal sense of agency. |
You make a good point. Perhaps public transportation should receive equal amounts of public subsidy as the road network does for personal car users. Only 33% about of road spending in tmDC is paid for by usage fees/taxes on gas, tags, etc. So whatever metro is making in user fees, we can multiply that by three and then DC, VA, and MD can kick in 2/3rd of that out of general fund. |
Right on, comrade! All these dummy carbains can rot being stuck on i66 in traffic. I will be happily reading my book on the orange line. |
They are cracking down severely on fare evaders. And you do realize that for everyone who rides metro, you're taking a car off the road. That's less congestion on every major road. |
