Fwiw, I’m a middle aged white lady from the suburbs and probably more crime averse than average. I wouldn’t ride around the city by msyself at midnight but commuting is totally fine.

Just because you appear to always have your head in the sand while commuting doesn't mean these things don't happen daily.

There was a group of teens harassing two moms on Monday. One mom sat down in a seat that the teens had deemed was "their zone" even though no one in their group was using it.

"Is this bish really gona sit right here? On today? On the day of our freedom? I know you wildin!" "yo, it's Juneteenth, you can't be here - MOVE!" The woman stood up and moved with her stroller to the other end of the car along with the other woman. They both got off at the next stop.

I see mentally ill/homeless people causing trouble at least once a week. I see dudes jerking off at least once month. These things are not rare.

No carjackings though.

I stopped riding the metro to work about 18 years ago. I hardly ride it anymore.

I tend to read stuff online and roll my eyes thinking people just exaggerate so much.

My daughter rode the metro into DC the other day and I picked her up at night (from the suburbs no less!). Gotta admit - the people hanging around the metro station were skeevy. Did not feel comfortable at all.

Ended up riding the metro last week. Haven't been on the metro in years. Was surprised how not clean it looked. I didn't see anyone evade the fares so there is that.

But one or two of my fellow riders - weird, weird, weird behavior. Anti-social behavior.

Does this mean I've fully embraced the Karen from the suburbs vibe? Because, I don't want to be in a close car with anti-social behavior.

Absolute rip off it’d cost a family of 4 $48-52 to go round trip into town on the metro where there’s crime, track delays, and nasty people in general riding. Uber it is!

Increasing prices means less law obeying people will ride simultaneously with more fare evasion. The solution next year will be more fare increase, and the cycle continues.

Do you regularly take Metro? Do you agree that the region needs a fully-functioning system of public transportation that enables people to get where they're going without a car?

If Metro came up with a feasible plan to operate 24/7 they would not have budget deficits. I cannot fathom how DC is the nation's capital and the train system does not operate 24/7 like the one in NYC.

Translation: metro doesn't have a stable funding system to pay grossly over compensated union management and employees.

Metro does have stable funding. Cut costs and jobs of useless employees. Automate as much as possible. Use nonunion workers. 80% solved right there.
