Just watched it on youtube. They just sit in the car. Nothing happens |
My favorite! That's required viewing for my girls! |
???? |
One of the best movies ever made. |
She says “did we?” And he says “yes” |
I think the movie is fairly ambiguous about both Jake’s intentions for Ted and what happened between Ted and Jake’s girlfriend. I mean, sure you could interpret it in the worst possible way and, who knows, maybe that’s what the director intended. But I think a reasonable person could fairly argue that Jake just wanted Ted to take his girlfriend back home because he didn’t want her around any more and that nothing actually happened in the car. |
Except that at the time it wasn't considered rape, although it was considered assholish behavior. |
I loved 16 Candles in high school, but the whole drunk sex thing with Anthony Michael Hall's character is trending dangerously close to rape. The Long Duk Dong character is very racist. It didn't age well. |
Revenge of the Nerds has a scene where a main character tricks another character into having sex with him. It's rape. Not great. |
NP. Why the question marks? If you’ve actually seen the movie, you would not be confused about it being included on this list. |
You need to rewatch he clearly gave her over to have sex. |
Yea it was considered date rape. |
I have rewatched it. I honestly don’t think so. I think Jake was tired of her and wanted Ted to take her home and to make sure she got home and not do something stupid like leave her in a parking lot somewhere. He never tells Ted to “have fun” with her or anything. |
At the time there was no PG13 rating. That rating was created after the Gremlins movie came out. I haven't seen Gremlins since the 90's but I'm sure it hasn't aged well either. I remember some characters got killed by the gremlins and there was an old stereotyped Chinese man and no one listened to his advice. |
Correction: Jake does say “have fun” as they are about to leave in the car together, but he doesn’t say “have fun with her”. My interpretation as a kid watching this movie, and I think it holds up, is that Jake let Ted drive his girlfriend home because it would improve his reputation to be seen with the most popular girl in school. That’s it. And Ted did take her to his friend’s house to get a picture of them together. I don’t think it makes sense that Jake would talk about valuing real love, and then basically giving his girlfriend over for sex in the next breath. That’s the way I see it, but everyone is entitled to their own interpretation obviously. |
