Um, the main love interest giving away his drunk girlfriend to a kid who did him a favor so the kid can rape her?

Lots of stupidness in 16 candles:

Yes! This one is horrible.

I can’t believe they made her 16 years old and no one saw an issue with that. Is she older in the remake?

Depends on the child's age. My 10 yo is mostly not watching stuff I watched as a kid. Sometimes because it aged poorly (Goonies, Temple of Doom), sometimes because she has no interest (Star Wars, Avonlea), and sometimes because I don't like it and don't care to sit through it (Wizard of Oz, Willy Wonka). And honestly, there are so many better and age appropriate movies and shows today.

At 16+, sure, watch what you want and we can talk about the context if needed.

C’mon. Everyone loved Jake!

I like to remind my kids it was a PG movie when it came out. They love that.

I watched it with my older teens to point out how f'd up the 80's was. Also "long duck dong"... come on man!

My oldest was like, wait... what... then the rape scene he was like wait, what.

Yeap... and this is how you end up with a Harvey W. et.al.

Grease... I watched it on a plane and it didn't age well at all.

Even ONJ was like I don't think I want my daughters thinking they have to change for a boy.

NP. I had a short-term boyfriend in college who essentially tried to “gift me” to his friend once. We had a nice little discussion about how women are people, and how he was a little b**ch who was now single again.

Disagree. It's a classic that remains very funny and relevant.

and was remade into Paws of Fury for kids last year or so.

Pretty Woman was stupid when it came out. Didn't need to wait 30 years for it to become stupid.

There is nothing I wouldn’t let my kid watch from my youth. She can quote My Cousin Vinny and do Olive’s dance from Little Miss Sunshine.

She knows they are just movies from a different time.

She loves Blazing Saddles and we talk about it being co written by Richard Pryor. When you watch the movie, all the racists are the idiots.

We had watch Rear Window and she was so bored but got invested when Raymond Burr came back to his apartment when Grace Kelly was snooping.

Better Off Dead

What’s wrong with Better Off Dead? Have shown that to my teen. Holding off on The Sure Thing though.

Revenge of the Nerds

I can't think of a movie that has aged worse. At the time it was a band of nerds who beat the jocks and won the girls. Now it's a bunch of incel sexual predators whose depravity culminates in rape
