Do only rich white people murders matter in SF?

Nice

Let’s go back to the basics. No matter why and not matter who is in power - having people sleep, defecate, and shoot up on the sidewalks is NOT the norm. Why is it allowed to happen in a civilized country?

People are leaving the city and for a good reason. I’m no republican but this stuff makes me weary of super liberal politics as well.

Yep.

Is there something wrong with being willing to change your priorities based on the effect of previous policy? Do you really not want more police?

I sure as hell do, but I never called for defunding the police.
She can't even admit that she has gone a full 180 on the subject.

You act like that is some huge scandal but it’s just how government works. We try popular ideas out because democracy and then change our minds if it doesn’t work out. That’s a good thing. If Republicans had a political solution to crime then there wouldn’t be similar trends in red districts, yet there are. Most local dems are now trying to increase police recruitment. Your outrage is misplaced.

We are NOT a democracy. Get that thru your thick head. Democracies are tyrannical and majority rule by nature.

That's not what we are. We are a republic. The word democracy does not appear in the Constitution once.

I’m thinking of becoming a substitute teacher in retirement just so I can correct the stupidity in history now. The fact you even have to correct someone and tell them this shows me how bad history is being taught in publics. In addition, we have a lot of people here who are not US citizens who don’t understand the history of the US or our Constitutional Republic, right down down to state and local law, and how it works. I had some HOA idiot from another country tell me that we could not build a home on our buildable lot. Excuse? HOAs get some say in it so a pink shack isn’t built, but telling me I can’t build? My reply is that I could take my four acres (including the land our current home is on - they are adjacent) and sell it to one of the companies building teen rehab centers and adult mental health short-term facilities, which can be done through a legal loophole in our county, thus tanking his property values. Would he like that better? Amazing how fast the control freak shut up. Oh, and I joined the HOA’s architectural committee as well, just so I can keep these idiots in check.

While the French person (for instance) seems like a very nice person, she is constantly dissing this country, holding up socialism as the beacon of freedom, but doesn’t seem in a hurry to get back to France anytime soon. My guess is he/she is here due to job and money, something that could not be achieved in his/her own nation.

My friend was an HOA president and not only had people over weekly for dinner but also got the entire HOA to sponsor a community center in a third world country. He also ran a business and had four kids. Some people can do it all and with a smile. Be better.

And? I’m not criticizing all HOA presidents. I’m simply stating that some people do not understand what the Constitution is, why it was written, and why its so important, and that shows when they rise to positions of power.

The title of this thread looks especially dumb now.

Congrats on jumping to conclusions, OP!

This murder has nada to do with San Francisco except some dude was mad at someone his sister knows and they all lived there or nearby.

I wish people would think before spouting off whatever Fox News or Elon Musk says about “crime” in cities.

Your friend does sound impressive! But who drove carpool for the lids' activities, took them to activities and doctor appts, cooked meals, cleaned house, washed clothes, did yardwork, etc?

Reparations are the critical step, and necessary precedent step, for a just, equitable and peaceful SF.

Or we could put drug addicts and sidewalk poopers in jail. That would do far more good for San Francisco than any dumb reparations scheme, at a tiny fraction of the cost.

San Francisco is not the hell hole you all imagine. The economic proof is that people still spend so much to live there.

Depends on what you consider beautiful, healthy, and safe surroundings. I think it's great that there are many people who enjoy living there.

I visited San Francisco a few years ago. I didn’t feel unsafe the whole time or anything but being bothered by homeless people everywhere we went, watching homeless men pee and/or poop right outside of stores, etc. just made it an unpleasant place to visit. It’s beautiful by the Golden Gate Bridge but everywhere else was just kind of gross.

Explain to me exactly how the mechanics of reparations work. Why should an immigrant who had absolutely nothing to do with the oppressive history or policies have to pay? And who collects? What if you're black, but an African immigrant who was never enslaved by Westerners? Or what if you're West Indian, who was enslaved, but entirely under different colonialism than US history? Exactly how do you calculate an EQUITABLE solution, of who pays, how much they pay, and who receives, and how much they receive? And do you really think some kind of simple cash payout will actually solve the social issues?

Vital questions - but no answers?

If this is such a critical, necessary precedent step then why haven't any of these things been thought through?
