Massive pentagon leak re Ukraine conflict

If he had access to those documents, then he must have a security clearance. Which would mean he either works for the government, either directly or as a contractor. Or he knows someone who does and they feed him the documents.

So how did a camera get inside a SCIF?

Oh, FFS. Someone in Congress did not leak this.

Perhaps if leaks had been taken more seriously in the past, this crap would not be happening.

People have been leaking stuff for a while now, and very rarely suffer any ramifications.

Republican congressmen showed during the first impeachment that they have no respect for SCIFs.

Exactly. And everyone I know who works in SCIFs is under strict rules about phones and cameras.

I will snicker a little when we find that this leak was from some far-left Democrat trying to impress his friends.

He’s a “young, charismatic gun enthusiast.”

Washington Post reporters got hold of members of the Discord channel where the leaks were posted, they know the poster, and said he is in his 20s, currently serving in the military, conservative, gun enthusiast, and he got the documents from a military base that he serves on. https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2023/04/12/discord-leaked-documents/

Will probably get caught very soon.

Where in the posted article did they say he was "conservative?" Or, serving in the military? Citation needed.

Literally the first lines of the linked article. Jesus.

The teen who gave the interview in the article is in a world of hurt. I hope he gets a lawyer.

Copy and past the part where pp here claimed he is "conservative" and "serving in the military."

Sure sounds like a liberal to me!! Nothing specific about being actual military but he clearly was a gun nutter conservative that worked at a secure military location.

I figured you would not be back. Because, you cannot post anything from the linked article that states what you claim.

Why are you in a discussion of an article when you’re refusing to read the article?

We get that. But instead of making this into a right vs left fight, which is so predictable and boring, it's best to be specific. And I'm a lefty, so I'm not trying to hide this man's obvious ties to guns and religion. I think if he was spewing MAGA bull, the teen would have reported that to WaPo. He sounds libertarian if anything, actually. Angry about government overreach, wants freedom to carry, etc.

As a parent, this is just so chilling. Plan to share the post article with my child. Just so sad to see kids bond with absolute strangers on the internet and get sucked into this nightmare. Smart parents getting them in touch with national media though. Jesus, I can’t imagine the panic I would have for my child in this situation.

Pretending like we aren’t facing a right wing rambo gun nut problem is not going to make it go away.

That's not what happened. An open source journalist, Aric Toler, tracked them down on April 9th and posted their twitter username. That's the point at which the big name publications got involved.

This is likely the kid that posted them on the Minecraft server. It's actually his fault the documents went widespread. After he posted it on Minecraft then someone (else?) posted them on 4Chan, to win an internet argument, from where they got doctored and made their way to Telegram. This kid better start singing because he's about to enter a world of hurt.

And he's probably the source for all the additional reporting on the many documents that were not part of the minecraft > 4chan > telegram chain. Most of the reporting on the leaks has now involved documents that did not make it into the broader realm.

The Fed’s have already figured out that it’s an Air National Guardsman and are looking for him.

He’s either committing suicide or will be caught within a day or two. Now the big question: who or what radicalized “OG”?

The national guardsman, whose name is Jack Teixeira, oversaw a private online group named Thug Shaker Central, where about 20 to 30 people, mostly young men and teenagers, came together over a shared love of guns, racist online memes and video games.
