Most Beautiful College Campuses by Geographical Region

I also really like Columbia
Midwest: Indiana University
South: Vanderbilt (I haven't been to many other universities in the South)
West: Not much experience with beautiful West coast universities, but I visited University of Puget Sound when I was a kid because a relative worked there. From what I remember the campus is sort of an odd architectural mix but it felt very green and lush and you can see Mount Rainier and you're near the ocean. That said, it's been a long time since so it could be my memory improved it by combining everything I saw in Puget Sound with my memory of the university.

I thought the Vanderbilt campus was atrocious.

Why? (Serious question). I'm the PP and I didn't do a full tour (I was there for an event not college visit) but I thought it was attractive and I liked its proximity to, but separation from Nashville and the whole area was full of gorgeous flowering trees. I do remember feeling like the buildings seemed oversized and imposing for their style though, so maybe that's what you're referring to? I tend to go on feel of the campus and the environs rather than architecture in my judgments of beauty.

Calling USC beautiful requires you to be very near-sighted.

True.
But same with Pepperdine. You are clearly only speaking of the coastline not the campus buildings themselves.
I prefer the buildings at Pomona or Scripps, or Occidental.

The Claremont Colleges in general are beautiful....except for Mudd!!!
East coast - Cornell by a long shot....

I thought the Air Force Academy was quite beautiful the way it is set against the foothills. I definitely found it more beautiful than the other Colorado schools, including UC Boulder.
Also, USC is one of my least favorite campuses I have ever visited. You can't overcome that it's in a terrible part of LA.

I went to UPS and it is a pretty campus. Close to the Puget Sound, can see Mt. Rainer, and North Tacoma is mostly charming.

I preferred Smith to Mount Holyoke and Amherst. They have a nice mix of old and modern buildings, the obligatory NE chapel, and a beautiful pond. Northampton is also a big plus!

My favorite campus locations are Swarthmore's outdoor amphitheater, Yale's clock tower, Michigan's Law Quad, the Air Force Academy's chapel, and Stanford's entry with Palm Drive, the Oval, and church.

In terms of other awesome campus venues, Kansas's Phog Allen Fieldhouse for a basketball game and Penn's Franklin Field for the Penn Relays are tough to beat (sorry Duke grads)!

Boulder-tops them all

A private and public by region.

Stanford/Washington
Yale/West Point
Chicago/Indiana
Duke/William and Mary
Rice/Ole Miss

I can't think of a nice private in the same region as Colorado. I need to travel more there.

I went to UPS too (imagine that!!), and I agree with the description above except for the "odd architectural mix" part. It is all tudor gothic. If the PP visited a long time ago, they may have seen an unfortunate collection of pink-ish buildings (or the A-frames!!) that are long gone now. But the views of the Mountain and the proximity to the Sound--it really is a special place.
