| Yorktown 8-1 final. Totally dominated. |

Definitely good showing by Yorktown (caught it on NFHS). Thought they looked formidable vs Oakton earlier in the week (and Oakton even scored 6 goals). Holding Madison/state champs to 1 goal is some pretty strong early season defensive work. Solid poles, strong transition and patient offense - they look to be in good form these days. |
Holy impressive. Madison must be scratching their heads trying to figure out what went wrong. |
| Problem with FFXC that middle school kids can’t play on HS teams. Good Yorktown 8th graders can play with JV while FFXC 8th graders can’t - YT kids have a 25% additional advantage to play at a higher level and building team chemistry. |
| This has some merit but not 100%. Yorktown routinely loses high level 8th graders to private schools. Also, give credit to the Arlington youth lacrosse program which is excellent and has good leadership, a lot of kids participating, good coaching, and solid community support. You see a similar situation with Vienna football and look at their success at Madison. |
| The loss has nothing to do with that. A chunk of these players have played together since they were in elementary school and play club together. The team simply wasn’t focused. |
8-1 seems more than just a focus issue. Give Yorktown some credit on being the better team who had less rest to prep for this game. |
Madison has excellent coach and will rebound no doubt (2 year state champs, bound to have dud game every once in a while). The story here (imo) is that Yorktown looks legit and potential early favorite to win states this year. Only challenge may be that their only tough games remaining look to be Patriot (and maybe Langley). May be tough to stay sharp until Regional tournament starts in late May. |
Don't think Patriot is a tough game this season. Other than LB this seems to be a down season for 6A lacrosse skill wise. Not a lot of top tier talent. Yorktown lost to Heights which is not a private power house program. This season's teams are not comparable to the Madison/Oakton/Chantilly/Robinson teams of the past. |
| You’re basing this on three weeks into the season? |
| Why are we comparing to privates, which recruit? |
|
The Heights is much improved this year. MadLax rankings have them at #12 overall and they played Landon 7-5 and Gonzaga 10-7, so they can hang with the big boys. Yorktown playing the Heights to a 10-8 game is not bad.
|
| I think it was a combination of Yorktown being a good team and playing well and Madison having an off night. And I expect the Madison coaches to get them back on track. Remember that Madison lost to Yorktown twice last season but beat them when it mattered most. |
Patriot is not great this season. Langley is much better but probably not on Yorktown's level, at least not yet. Yorktown will get Langley in the regular season and maybe again in districts but agree Yorktown's toughest games were on the front end. |
