As many of you have noticed, I have removed many posts from this thread. Those posts were reported to me via the "report" button that is present on every post. I believed the posts that I removed to be off-topic, in most cases mentioning individuals who are not directly involved in the subject of this thread.

The lawyer who has been in touch feels that there are many remaining posts that are defamatory. I have informed the lawyer that I will not remove the thread. However, I will comply with any legally-issued subpoenas for IP addresses.

If you are the author of a post in this thread and do not wish to have your IP address potentially turned over, you are welcome to "report" your own post and ask for it to be removed. However, that report will have to come from the same IP address as the post that you are reporting. That's the only way that I can know that it is you making the request.

In addition, the original poster of the thread can request to have the entire thread removed. However, the same stipulation will apply. I will need to be sure that such a request is actually coming from the original poster.

His attorneys may want to reread 47 USC 230. Of course, Jeff may want to remember that deleting a post doesn't render it immune from a subpoena seeking the IP address.

The Commission investigates complaints by homeowners, awards monetary damages against licensed contractors, and prosecutes violators of the home improvement law and regulations.

The Commission has a Guaranty Fund (The Fund) supported by licensed contractors, who pay a Guaranty Fund assessment when they obtain their Home Improvement license and each time they renew their license. This Fund compensates homeowners for actual monetary losses due to poor workmanship or failure to perform a home improvement contract. The Fund applies only to work done by licensed contractors. The maximum amount that a homeowner may recover through the Fund is the amount paid to the contractor, up to $30,000. If the total amount of all claims against a contractor equals more than $100,000, then each homeowner’s award is pro-rated based upon the total amount awarded to each claimant.

If I am reading this correctly? State of Maryland filed four cases each case having one felony charge and one misdemeanor charge? Appears the felony charge is tied to a dollar amount? Did something suddenly cause this or has this been building and just popped? I am just reading public information. Just asking if I am reading it correctly. Sorry not an expert in this stuff.

A thought for the gang of 37 or anyone that feels that Optimum Construction or Omar Elrahimy wrongfully took or kept your money. Check your homeowner's policy to see if you have coverage for theft. It may not cover it all or any but is worth checking into, especially now that St of MD has filed charges of felony theft against Omar Elrahimy. Of course, these are just charges, he is innocent until proven guilty, we have not heard his explanation and that is what our legal system will provide him. However, the State of MD, presumably MHIC has looked into both sides of these complaints and feels there is enough to let our court system decide. All of this to say that your insurance might have to take a hard look at things if you had coverage for theft. Just an opinion and speculating in hopes it might help someone. No intent of harm to anyone. Good luck.

In general most things that would have helped mitigate damage like purchasing bonds or umbrella coverages would have been purchased before signing the contract so pretty much the lesson learnt was do not trust Amr Elrahimy or any companies associated with him. This whole process has been such a disappointment in both the protection for the victims and how slow the system is. I just hope people read these comments in the future and if they decide to work with Amr Elrahimy that they protect themselves.

Who purchases the bonds and gets umbrella coverage - the home owner or the contractor?

Not positive, but I believe it would be the homeowner purchasing the performance bond. However, I believe the contractor would have needed to provide financials to show the company is financially stable. In the case of Optimum Construction I would assume this is where it would have stopped. But being stopped at that point would have been a better outcome than progressing and being part of the bankruptcy.

Home owners have to pay for everything. Also its important to get detailed draw orders unlike the vague tbd contracts that amr elrahimy and optimum construction wrote up. Also don't believe anyone that says stuff like "this is how it's done" and just ask around and do the research. Also if anyone is interested he had to file for personal bankruptcy because he was in so much trouble....

State of Maryland files a fifth case of Felony Theft and Misdemeanor Failure to Perform Contract against Omar Elrahimy today. This case filed in the District Court for Howard County. Case# D-101-CR-23-002078 ...Nothing to see here

Good grief, if it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck its a duck right? I'd avoid GRIP supercar events and anything else associated with Optimum Construction and Omar Amr Elrahimy period.

Anyone want to guess what happened today?

Yup, you guessed it, Maryland filed the SIXTH case of Felony Theft against Omar Elrahimy. Not sure where it stops but I think they have a ways to go before being done. They seem to be working through cases and we know from the bankruptcy there are a lot. At least Omar assisted by documenting all of the cases in one place. Wondering it this could end up being one of the largest cases ever for MHIC. Will have to do some research and see.
