Why did I trust her? No apps done!!!!

She does work best under pressure but good grief she almost gave me a heart attack. Five schools down, she will be staying home tomorrow until her last 4 are in. I have read her essays and they are really good - ever meet those people that can naturally write and BS? Her stats are good as well; she says she just hit a wall and crashed hard. She was planning on doing them bit by bit but obviously that did not happen.
Thank you again to all of the supportive posters and for those who deemed her not ready for college you should realize that everyone’s situation and child is different. She was responsible enough to get her transcripts uploaded to the common app and her SAT scores sent ages ago so I am proud of her for that. What a way to start the New Year.

1/1 18:02 here. Glad to hear it! Rooting for her.

Great update OP!

I can completely see myself in this situation. I have a kid who writes every essay at the last minute and he attends a private high school so there are a LOT of essays. He started all-nighters in 10th grade. . I have threatened and bribed and removed his phone and computer and none of it has changed his behavior. But boy can he write under pressure. My husband started medical school essays the night they were due (and got in) so my son comes by it honestly. However I feel like i have aged years in the process.

Rooting for your kid!

OP you made my day with your great news! I’m so happy for you both. All the best to you. PS I was really stunned by the folks who said basically let her deal with the consequences. Every person is different, every situation is different. Facing the problem head on with a view towards the best outcome possible, with your support, worked for your DD. I am so glad you listened to the positive posters.

Didn’t you think it odd you didn’t have any charges for application fees??

Anyway, you can Google for lists of schools that usually have openings in spring or she can go to CC.

NP here. Different families have different arrangements. My kids have credit cards in their name, so when my DD applied, I didn’t see the charges until the bill came (and I do not review my bills carefully).

OP, great news! It can be an overwhelming process for some kids. Glad you got her on track.

OP- you are awesome! I can understand both yours and your daughter's situation..

Excellent! Looks like the trolls are still asleep. Most of the real people were rooting for you. Yea!

Those posters would then be right. Her consequences were cramming it all in at the last minute. Sounds like so far it’s working out for her.

Daughter is made to be an attorney filing last minute briefs.

Ha! I have a kid just like yours.

My DC was chill and did not panic at all. Applied to 17 schools all after Christmas, submitted the last one last night at 11:57.

It’s great that your kid got them done, but maybe being proud of how it was done isn’t sending your kid a great message.

Of course! I'm just relieved that DC got them done in time. I have worked with DC the whole time and know how what the problem was.

Great job, OP! Sounds like you handled it well.

And, I think you should be proud of your daughter - she did important early work on the recommendations and she showed resilience in getting this done last minute.

For those of you critiquing her while you micromanage your child's applications... what message are you sending your child and how are you setting them up for independence and challenges? No perfect way to get through this process - I have been through it twice with two very different kids - and learned lessons over and over. Best of luck to your daughter!

Sounds like she had things in motion already but just needed a nudge to get over the final hump. Glad you were able to support her.

She’s going to be admitted and do just fine in college!

Exactly. Helping your child come up with a plan to succeed despite having procrastinated is actually a useful life skill. Onward!
