| Presumably luck. An opportunistic homewrecking shyster who exploited chance encounters with him via her Hollywood husband. Low rung women like her can't normally get anywhere close to a "whale" like Jeff. And if they do, they're swatted down by men who know better. Jeff is an wimpy putz who was easily swindled. And it seems he still doesn't realize he's the mark. Jeff reminds me of Jennifer Coolidge's character in White Lotus; oblivious til the very end. |

Given her dating career, I suspect she has learned to play into men's emotions and egos -- she knows that they want to be worshiped, but not overtly, just constantly giving off the sense that she is so impressed by what a [whatever he wishes the world saw him as] he is. He was never going to get that from someone who's known him for decades.
Years ago, there was a spate of books about how women could achieve true happiness by suppressing themselves in service to being a completely devoted wife. One of the tips was "Admire the tiger he sees when he looks in the mirror." You know she's got that one down. |

Princess Diana graduated from high school with straight Ds on her report card, and never went to college. Ghislaine Maxwell, her contemporary, was a straight A student who went on to Oxford. One of them became a beloved humanitarian, the other a human trafficker. Our society has a fundamentalist's focus on grades and academic achievement, thinking that this is what demonstrates intellect. But a neurotypical person with no imagination or real intellectual curiosity can get straight As and do nothing with it, while a neurodivergent person with a learning disability, or a trauma survivor who can't focus, can be a C-student and make great strides once they recover later in life. |

I mean, maybe. But this reaction presumes that all women want to be married to a rich guy, that their response is the result of anxiety and jealousy, rather than just "Ew. Well, at least they deserve each other." If he'd left his marriage for a real hottie, I'd understand that (file under "man thinks with dick"). If he'd left Mackenzie for someone who seems a lot like her, I'd understand that (file under "relationships can be good but run their course"). But throwing everything away for someone who's doesn't seem to be smart or devoted or even all that attractive within the category of "50-somethings who've had a lot of work done" is baffling. |
