*gift baskets
*good bottles of wine

It's not about the $$ spent, but the thought. I would take a $40 bottle of wine over an office branded yeti anyday.

Ditto.

Large gift baskets, a printer and a large gift basket, and paid for half of a roof replacement. The last agent who got a ridiculous commission for doing very, very little work was insulting to me, the wife, was incompetent and shushed me when I saw problems being ignored during the inspection and was useless when we saw the owner did none of the things they agreed to in the contract after the inspection. She suggested we owed her a gift.

This is terrible. Sorry you were treated this way. Sounds like a realtor who is justified for being called out so others avoid them.

OP, now you know to just use Redfin next time and keep a bunch of money in your pocket. No deal toy is worth it.

I never really understood why rich people feel they are owed a gift from a realtor. The entitlement kind of makes me want to barf.

My guess is the realtor is much more wealthy than OP if they are selling $2M houses. And a thank you gift would be a nice gesture.. this realtor sounds like the cheap, entitled party.

If I sold my 2 million dollar house with a Realtor and all I got was a branded $300 cooler, I can promise you I would tell every person I know to never use them.

Wasn’t that the agreed upon price for their services?

Realtors give “gifts” because some clients are whiny babies who will give them a bad referral because they didn’t get their egos stroked with monogrammed tea towels.

- not a realtor

+1. I'm so glad that I'm not a realtor. I'd lose my mind.

You're assuming Realtors have minds to begin with. As a class, they might just be the dumbest people on the planet.

And yet receiving a “gift” from them makes you happy and not receiving one makes you pout.

Its acknowledgement and appreciation. Thank you so much for choosing me to be your realtor . I appreciate you and hope we can do business again in the future. period. How can a realtor NOT do this?

Sorry but I’m laughing at this one! That’s actually so funny and extremely humiliating for the realtor! Did you tell him or let it go?

We didn't say anything. Didn't want to embarrass him. Honestly, he wasn't a great realtor, so the incorrect address on the mug fitting. Summarized our experience with him perfectly.

OP: Did you check inside the Yeti ?

I think we must have the same realtor!

It's nice to get one, but it's not a requirement?

We also get a pie every year from the realtor. I think agents should give something. It helps generate business. I’ll refer people to my last agent.

Bribery for business, eh?

Anonymous wrote:I agree with OP. This has nothing to do with the options either a gift or cutting commission. It's a thank you. And frankly a good business practice on the part of the realtor. Every realtor we've used, except our first one who was brand new, gave us a gift.

Same with our friends.

The realtors are not your friends. They're people you hired to perform a specific service.

Just based on this interaction, they don't want to do business with you again, clearly.

OP here - this is exactly my point. I wasn't expecting anything and would have preferred nothing rather than a tumbler with the realtors name on it.

I'm so sorry this is happening to you.
