You're misremembering the past. It's always been common for kids to go to school with colds. That didn't change with the pandemic. If anything, the change is that some people are much more sensitive to seeing kids with cold-like symptoms than they were before the pandemic. Things are starting to go more back to normal. |
Reminds me of an encounter pre-Covid: I was at a local TJ Maxx and there was a woman shopping with her daughter--he daughter looked so awful that people were commenting to the mom while in line, is your dd ok, etc..? Mom replied that the daughter had strep but she (the mom) couldn't stand to be at home anymore. So she dragged her sick dd to TJ Maxx to do some non-essential shopping. I haven't forgotten how sick and sad that poor little girl looked. We just shook our heads, but the mom was so proud she was dragging her sick dd everywhere. Think it stuck with me because my mom did crap like that when I was a child as well. As an adult, I stay home when I am sick and ignore all the idiots who say it's fine to come to social events. I did this pre Covid, and am still staying home when sick now. There are enough people out there who have little to no paid sick leave, so that if I have some, I need to take it. |
No, I am not misremembering. I'm not talking colds - these are serious respiratory viruses with painful coughs. This theory that we are all more sensitive is bogus - I worked in a school for years pre-Covid. |
Why doesn't she just have the help watch the kid? Or, even better, do the shopping for her? /s |
Interestingly, over 50% of the people I know who had Covid have some form of long Covid. My own (previously healthy) 20 yo took 6 months after getting covid before they could play basketball for more than 10-20 mins (previously could play for 2-3 hours with no issues). 2 months after covid, if they went downstairs to their room and came back up their heart rate was over 200 for at least 5-10 mins and they looked like they'd just run a 10K, not 15 steps, as they huffed and puffed to get air. Not to mention all the reports of previously healthy under 50 year olds who are just randomly dropping dead from heart issues in the last year or more (several high profile ones in the last few weeks). Interestingly all of these people had covid in last 6 months. So just because you "don't know anyone", it is a real thing, even if you personally don't know anyone. Science and medical personnel know it's a real thing. |
Nobody without some weird health phobia even cares about COVID anymore. I’ve had it three times. Early 40s. Started running a week out the last time. Long COVID might be a thing but it’s super narrow and over self diagnosed |
No I do not want to shut them all down--but if everyone wore a mask when traveling and when at grocery store/target/church/etc it would help. Majority of kids can wear masks at school---they did it for a year--when illness is so high. We have schools near me with over 30% of the students out sick---that is not normal. I just don't get the All or nothing approach. People should keep their kids home from school when they are sick and also stay home from work if they are sick. If you know you are sick and must go out, then wear a mask and don't go to restaurants. |
Have you had your d-dimer checked? I sure would. |
Everyone may know about covid but not everyone has access to accurate info. Most don’t understand airborne viruses and transmission. They obviously did impact you bc you can’t stop posting We are. Ot going to give you a medal to say it’s ok to abandon precautions bc you are sick of it and triggered by a social media post |
You've just completely made up a bunch of stuff about me because you can't handle me saying I think it's dumb for randos to try to use Twitter to establish public health policy for everyone around them. |
That's very reasonable but that message gets lost in all the screeching about how people who don't masks when they are healthy don't understand that people are DYINGm |
+1 My child's school was very stern pre-pandemic that kids who had sniffles or a cough should be at school-only a fever or gastro symptoms should keep kids home. |
Wear a mask. Test yourself. Stop spreading it. That is really what you should be doing. |
A lot of ppl don't agree that reinstituting masking I'm schools is reasonable. |
Who should be wearing a mask (age?), in what settings and is this indefinite or only during surges in respiratory viruses? |
