If the Ivy League had to expand, who'd join?

Penn is an ivy

Think you missed the joke there.

(Different Poster)

Actually, it is you who missed the joke; by stating that Penn is an Ivy, the poster dissed Cornell.

Doesn't anybody think it's strange that some weird Navy mom revived a year-old thread without any explanation? When service academies cannot be in the Ivy league? But since we're all playing again, the only answer really is Georgetown. A few years ago, their place in Big East basketball would have made that a bad choice, but it's unlikely they will ever be the power they were, so Ivy makes sense. It's the only other top school with the size and location.

University of Chicago, Hillsdale, university of Virginia, Johns Hopkins, Georgetown to name a few

Really who cares? You have a lot of time on your hands, if you are pondering this question. I have a hs junior and am here looking for intel, not hypothetical discussions.

Georgetown, Duke, Vanderbilt, Emory, Rice, and maybe WashU would be considered as these schools are the best in a 100-mile radius and have a similar culture to the actual ivys.

Georgetown or Duke are possibilities, but not sure they want to give up athletic scholarships though. Would that kill their basketball programs?

Wouldn’t most football & basketball recruits qualify for full rides via financial aid based on need?

Have you checked out some of the other discussion categories on this site? Someone pondering Ivy expansion doesn’t come close to being among the weirdest things on your neighbors’ minds.

Not surprising if you aren’t a RWNJ religious fanatic.

Maybe things have changed but Georgetown seems kind of overrated.

Was curious because the first I'd ever even heard of it was here the other day. I honestly thought it was the fictional school from that 80s TV show Another World.

Realistically, the only schools that would merit consideration are Stanford, UChicago, MIT, Duke, Northwestern, and Hopkins.

Stanford, Northwestern, and Duke would lose too much money to step down to Ivy League athletics. Northwestern, as part of the Big Ten, already has a great research network.

USMA at West Point, USNA at Annapolis, University of Chicago, MIT, and Johns Hopkins might be the best options if the Ivy League wanted to expand.

USMA and West point will never make it. That would water down the Ivy League brand. Why would a lefty cartel like Harvard - as seen on TV - join in the league with the killer machines that is the military?
