I am a teacher and I doubt FCPS will give in easily on the teachers. They are so pissed that they can’t control kids and families so they will control us instead. 🙂

Same, but the vocal social media group is very much pro mask. I just want kids to hear and understand what I say without going home with a sore throat daily.

Ok. It seems impossible to have an opposing opinion in that group. Hard to tell if that’s a true representation of the county.

Kinda like DCUM. If you only read here, you’d think that every parent in the county hates FCPS and thinks their child is being tortured by wearing a mask. You’d think that no one is learning a thing in a Title 1 school and that any classes outside of AAP only show cartoons all day.

Yes, no announcement needed. Based on FCPS plan earlier this week, now that we are in low transmission, all staff, students and visitors can attend Monday unmasked if they wish!

I’d like the option to unmask, but don’t they say we have to have at least 7 days straight in “Moderate” or lower? Now that’s no longer even a category. Technically we’ve been “Low” for a day and were “Substantial” the day before. I don’t think they’ll apply the new metrics to prior days.

The FCPS website said they are aware of the new CDC guidance that came out Friday and will update us on Monday. Looks like a 100% turn a round from their January communication in response to the EO. LOL! FCPS looks absolutely idiotic!

I don’t want to be saddled with trying to make students wear masks based on parental wishes. Actually, the email that was sent out reads, “Respecting Student Choice and Need”: Teachers and school staff will not treat students differently based on their choice”. If a student shows up with a mask and the removes it later, it shouldn’t be an issue.

She’s not concerned about COVID per se. But she’s very concerned about missing out on two weeks the last three month of senior years.

If they would do 5 days for isolation plus 5 masked, that might be different.

Their response to the EO was that FCPS is obligated to comply with CDC guidelines.

Now, when CDC guidelines says kids do not need to mask as of Friday at 3:00, then FCPS can't find the time to read the new guidelines and apply them??

It's very disingenuous, and I was a Brabrand supporter right up until they created a new rule in early Feb saying we'd have to hold at the 7-day average of moderate for another 7 days (i.e. essentially 2 weeks) before making masks optional.

I'm not sure why they are unable to be "nimble" or who they are catering to. But, I do know that they are just making rules up to satisfy the group that has them by the balls. The whole "must follow CDC" schtick is a crock.

That's a good point. Isolation would be devastating for my kids' grades. They haven't had covid either. Hmmm....something to consider.

No, actually you look like an idiot. They’ve always maintained that they were directed by a LAW to keep schools open and follow the CDC guidelines. The court upheld that. An executive order cannot trump a law. They’ve continued to follow the law (SB1303) directing them to follow CDC guidelines and were prepared to follow the NEW law that allowed parents to elect whether their child wears a mask effective March 1. The CDC guidelines changed YESTERDAY.

What exactly is funny here? There’s no “turnaround.” They’re simply following the law as it changes. The executive order was never a law. Sounds like you need to brush up on your reading comprehension and critical thinking skills, Champ.

That email was so confusing but I think it is 5 days now if they will wear masks day 6-10.

I am taking “mask police” off my job description as a teacher starting Monday. No more.
