Thank you. No, she did not get any Cs. |
Asian-American is not considered URM, especially in STEM. Being Asian-American can be a liability because there are so many qualified Asian-American kids with fantastic stats, ECs etc. |
|
That's astonishing. Makes no sense whatsoever. Congrats on the T10 acceptance!! Maybe you can appeal? Seems crazy to be rejected with those stats. |
The 27 might have been a problem, if submitted |
Right. Definitely should not have submitted a 27. |
27 is low for UMD, but a 3.98 is impressive! It might depend on the rigor of the high school program/# of APs, etc. College admissions is a mysterious process. It's so hard to predict these days who will get accepted. |
I wonder if this is an example of how lower grades at private schools hurt when applying to public universities that are more stat driven and don’t take into account different programs the same way private colleges do. |
Yup. Choose a private for other reasons than college admissions. In this day and age of inclusion, privates reek of privilege. Not a good look these days. |
On our W school Scattergrams, still should have been a slam dunk with that score. Solidly green territory. No idea what school this student attends but this is scary! |
Thank you! My kid is a spring admit. I didn't see the letter and am trying to digest what this means. Your info on Freshman Connection led me to this - https://oes.umd.edu/current-incoming-former-umd-students/freshmen-connection/program-overview What are the main differences between Freshmen Connection and the regular fall semester? Freshmen Connection offers a selection of UMD courses that help fulfill undergraduate major and University general education requirements. Courses meet in campus classrooms, 3-9 p.m., Monday-Thursday, and 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Fridays. My biggest question is what's the goal of this program, what kind of students do it and what classes are offered in the fall? My kid is in a magnet and had 10 APs, so I was assuming would have a lot of credit coming in already. Are these like English 101 classes the kid would already have AP Eng credit for? On one hand, you could see some advantages to doing this... the kid could work part-time in the morning and take classes later. But if it's all basic classes the kid would not have to take anyway because of AP, that's different. If anyone has experience with this, please share! |
| Rejected. 1420 SAT. 3.85 unweighted grade point average 4.2 weighted. crazy thing is he was accepted at Penn State. I do not want to pay out of state tuition. 😡. Waiting to hear from other schools but they are all out of state. |
Um, this kid got into a top 10, so I think the private school worked out just fine with respect to college admissions. Maybe MD realized this kid was never going to go there. |
Madness. Hard to believe UMDCP is rejecting kids with these stats! I remember when a 1400 would get you into any college you wanted, including Ivies! This is nuts, probably caused by the pandemic craziness with kids applying to 15 colleges or more! My kid applied to 12 colleges. I applied to 3. |
