HAHAHA no.

Public school teachers aren’t even state employees, they’re employed by their local school districts. Once again, this is state government overreach in local matters. Where is the state-sponsored complaint line for reporting our police?

Exactly right. People who aren’t seeing this for what it is need to go back and study history.

But isn't it a reaction to the absolutely crazy things some teachers have gotten away with teaching?

My DC's Middle school science teacher goes on rants weekly on various liberal objectives. How awful Trump was (he was), how great a leader Hillary Clinton would have been (would have rocked it) and that she is still the most qualified woman for the Presidency (eh, she's up there for sure). How the earth will be dead in 7 years due to climate change (either your kid misheard or the teacher is confused, but the 7-9 years is how many we have left before reversing damage done is no longer possible), how the electoral college is racist (Oh, yeah, 100% facts), etc...

If I were to bring this up with the principal, it just puts a target on my kid's and our families back.

This teacher is now a meme in our house, i.e. what would mister "Red" say about this? or this is what mister "Yellow" said today in class and we didn't have time to finish our work.

My kid will be fine, they know we live in a very progressive area, but at least it is just one teacher doing this, and not all. And DC is smart enough to know when a teacher is sharing inappropriate opinions and can just laugh it off.

So if a teacher with a conservative view was telling your student that Biden is a shell of the man he used to be (fact), that there are only 2 sexes (fact), wearing anything but N95 masks is simply mask theater, transgender MTF athletes have an unfair physical advantage and is harmful to women's sports, you would be OK with those as well? I didn't think so. Indoctrination by either side is bad for students.

Lol my kid in APS had a teacher who on the regular went on rants about her pro gun rights views and told kids about Jesus stuff. True story. Nothing bad came of it, except the kids started making Biblical allusions in their essays so she’d give them As.

Where’s the tip line for complaints about Gov Youngkin and his sad Bezos vest twinning and his douche hair swirl in the front and his horrible MAGA theatrics?

The ballot box.

I am a teacher and all of this is nonsense. It’s like the box Toby had under his desk where he filed all of Dwight’s complaints about Jim. They never went anywhere but Dwight felt heard and empowered. This is pandering to stupid white parents who think they’re ruining someone’s life by tattling. I’m not paying attention to any of it. Not any one stupid “law” about what I can or cannot say. I’m going to teach.

My 8th graded came home from civics yesterday, all riled up about “that republican who has veto power” (???). Her civics teacher went on a rant after she heard some NPR story about how evil Mitch McConnell “vetoed” more bills than anyone, and doesn’t he have too much power??

Civics lady forgot to explain 1) Mitch cannot veto anything 2) he’s the MINORITY leader, and 3) Dems hold both houses plus the executive.

Schools are lousy with biased teachers who bring their personal politics into the classroom.

Maybe this tip line is long overdue?

You might want to read up on senate rules. Single senators have the power to place holds on nominations. For the vast majority of legislation to pass, you need 60 senators not 51 supporting it, so the minority leader does effectively wield a veto if they can hold their caucus together.

Because the answer is definitely that the teacher said all of those things exactly as your 8th grader reported them, and your DD definitely didn’t paraphrase or gloss over the nuance of the discussion. 🙄

This. The problem isn’t with teachers telling the truth, it’s that the parents are too uninformed to know what’s the truth and automatically assume when they hear something they don’t like it’s a teacher pushing her agenda instead of stating facts. Everything she said is effectively true- maybe you can take issue with the precise terminology, but you’re not even hearing it firsthand from her.

Perhaps you need to look at your own bias as to why you think it’s OK for one man to repeatedly frustrate the will of a majority of the people. Or why you don’t think children should learn things as they actually are, instead of some bowdlerized characterization more suited for propaganda.
