If you want virtual school and can't handle these surges, then sign up for the virtual academy.

Try signing up for virtual academy and then you will realize it's almost impossible to do so.

Some of us are signed up for it. Clearly its not impossible.

When did you sign up?

Mid-July. We didn't hear till about a week before school started. If you are expecting to get in now, its not going to happen but they offered it and you choose not to apply.

So, it WASN’T impossible, but now it IS impossible. Got it.

Mean VA mom takes every opportunity to remind us our choices were wrong.

In truth, they were not for our families. Not until recently, when omicron came along with a much higher rate of infection...

Yes, most of us want our kids to be in person. Omicron is a different animal, and a couple weeks of virtual would have prevented a lot of disease spread. As is stands, numbers are getting better in some places, but kids should still be allowed to stay home for a week or two more and tune into live streams if they can/want. Easing the congestion until omicron heads out helps everyone.

Hospitals are still at capacity. We've just hit a plateau. Things aren't really improving.

Probably a right wing thing tank and money.

A few weeks ago, before her position was clear they were busy making fun of her first name and dog whistling up a storm about her incompetence and probable alliance with the unions.

Leading isn't easy, especially in times of crisis. But she held strong in the face of parents who ignored science, numbers and the well being of our children.

School remained open, continues to be open, and our children are learning in person. Well done Dr. McKnight. Count me in the camp of hoping she gets the job full time.

And for when this debate inevitably happens again (whether it be the spring, fall or winter)...this is now the 2nd time the county has been right to keep schools open (see Fall 2021 "Delta" wave). Schools stay open, debate is over.

Also, a big kudos to the principals in MoCo who lead each of their respective schools through the wave as well. Deserve as much credit as Dr. McKnight.

Nope. You wish.

Schools are open. Students may attend if they wish and simply need to wear a mask

Teachers per recent stats have been present save for this past week and an occasional miss.

But yes, let us all shut down because a small but vocal minority of parents want everyone to wait while they get comfortable with numbers.

Nope, not again, not another long shutdown that hurts the mental well-being of students.

Not your decision, thankfully. We shall see.

Schools are for educating students, not a jobs program. The 94% of you can pound sand.

Schools are for education, not for childcare. Pound sand.

A part of MCPS who wants to have a virtual meeting for themselves due to covid, but forced teachers and kids to get covid?

I mean the same part which sent a message that in two weeks MCPS will distribute the mask, two weeks, lol. Till then let everyone gets covid.

If that part was working hard then masks would have been ready to go as soon as school opened.

BOE and Central office are simply incompetent. Don't confuse them with teachers/staff.

EXACTLY.

+ 1 MILLION!! Yeah for following science and steadfast resolve! So happy she didn’t cave to anxiety and fear.

We have reached the peak and pushed through it. Sure it was bumpy and ugly but this is what “we are in this together” looks like.
Brava McKnight!

+2. Was it perfect? No, far from it. But if DCUM is a taste of the hysteria she had to deal with, than kudos to her for standing firm.

God I can only imagine. So many hysterical people. I think I’ll have my kids make her a card this weekend. I encourage others to do the same.

Oh, please. You're a buffoon.

God, I hope you're in 8th grade because otherwise, how embarrassing for you.

Lol, exactly how dumb are you? Of course they are going back..they closed at the appropriate time and didn't have kids sitting in schools spreading it. That was the entire point of the two weeks. Critical thinking isn't your strong suit I see.

Parents and kids have been railroaded on this for two straight years. I guess Virginia didn't sink in. It's crazy to me that Biden hasn't called teachers out forcefully yet; he's committing political suicide.

Yawwwwwnnnn.

Well that’s wrong. Over 400 classrooms are closed. Those kids can’t go to school.

And those damn hospitals! Why don’t they just shut up and deal with the surge in covid cases so you can get your kid out of the house!

Talk about mental ill, pp. Good example!

Covid cases have been flat in MoCo since kids returned to school. Hospital bed usage continues to be in the "low" category.

+1. Our curve is flat and looks remarkably like PG County's, despite their decision to switch to virtual. It's really good evidence that shutting down in person schooling is pointless even in the face of a surge in cases.

+1 million

I hope our health officials look to this when making decisions for the next surge. No more school shutdowns. They are not effective and not necessary.

Actually, it's the opposite. If they had shutdown when they should've we'd be in a much better situation now. Schools are just superspreaders and have only made the situation 10X worse.

There is no data to support this position, which is why all the top medical authorities support having kids in school.

Imaginary “facts” are the only thing keeping the virtual crowd going. Leave them be. They lost.

Nobody "lost" except the kids of lazy parents who got COVID unnecessarily, you moron.

DP, so precovid, if some kid got the flu, was it the fault of the lazy parent? Elrich must've been lazy since he got covid.

At this point, if you are vaxxed, getting covid is like getting the flu or a cold.

And what is with the poster who responded to every post with some juvenile insult. It really shows you are driven by your emotions and are too immature and unstable to be making any decisions that impact education.

It is an "intentional and specific" decision by the MCPS Superintendent whether or not to provide virtual instruction (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTrT2NKc2NQ, 3:45).

Since they're not listening to anyone, my guess is the board and Superintendent's strategy is "barking dogs yap while the caravan moves on."

Until they're removed from their positions, nothing will likely happen.
