Same. Although apparently there is at least one poster on this thread who is certain that it will be otherwise. I know that if the mask requirements are dropped in my school then at least half of us will walk. And we won't be waiting until the end of the school year to do it.

PP here. Personally I'm not that concerned about being in class with my students unmasked and I'm ok requiring masks for now, but again I don't think the local districts will drop the requirement.

I will say that it's pretty impressive that at least half of your school staff would walk. I haven't heard anybody say that. I haven't heard any discussion about it honestly. I highly doubt that many on our staff would be able to afford to just leave anyhow, even if they wanted to.

It’s not going to happen. Arlington’s vaccination rates are awesome. No one needs to get all bent out of shape for nothing.

Majority of the population os vaccinated. Testing is widespread. People take rapid tests regularly - two or three times a week and PCR tests every few weeks or so. Tests are widely available. Anytime ppl meet up with friends or family they take a test. The government is very transparent. There is an app. Everyone knows how many new cases there are a day… rate of covid… how many are being treated in the hospital. There is a color system. Green means can go to places with no restrictions and be unmasked outdoors. Yellow (which was instituted today) means that you need to wear a mask in and outdoors (unless eating) and that you need to show your vaccine card (also in the app) to enter places. We went to a restaurant today and showed our card (literally took two seconds) and walked right in. People aren’t like the crazy shut everything down types. But they also are pro-mask and pro-vaccine. Government is all about testing, vaccinating and is generally on top of things. As a result cases aren’t ever that bad, covid is under control and ppl are living normal lives. The balance is right.

Vaccine passports and mandates are throughout Europe, and cases are soaring. Virus is going to virus.

I don’t think you get it. It’s not like Europe here. Case counts are low. There is no vaccine mandate. You have an option of not being vaccinated. Vaccine passports and masking exist but it depends on what level. We were green up until yesterday. At the green level there are no vaccine passports. Masking is required in indoors public areas. There are no social distancing requirements so businesses can operate at maximum capacity. At the yellow level vaccine passports are required but businesses can still operate at maximum capacity. Vaccine passports here include people who are vaccinated as well as people who aren’t vaccinated but just recovered from covid.

I’m guessing they don’t have the dumb-a$$ anti-maskers, anti-vaxxers, anti-testers.

Or, maybe they did, but they “took care of them” early on.

No they don’t. The government is extremely repressive but it never forced vaccination. Around 40% of the population was fully vaccinated in May 2021. But then Delta hit and it hit the unvaccinated really badly. People freaked out and got vaccinated. The government also instituted this color coded threat level which required vaccine passports at all levels with the exception of the green level. So being unvaccinated just became really inconvenient cos you basically couldn’t go anywhere if you weren’t vaccinated or didn’t have a covid recovery certificate. Now 71% of the population is fully vaccinated. Vaccines still aren’t available for those under 12 (except the immunocompromised) so a 70% vaccination rate is pretty high since those under 12 make up around 20% of the population. Government is now working on encouraging boosters.

Yup. NI virtual…and no masks. ??

Actually the discussion on AEM is heavily in favor of not closing.

I have to wonder how many on there are now thankful to APE and groups like them for pushing for the law. No doubt few would ever admit it.

Almost all parents have wanted kids in schools. Some just wanted safety measures in place.

The safety measures were in place - masks, cleaning, outdoor lunch. My kid attended the limited in person last year. Not one single issue.

No thanks to APE who opposed them all along. They could have sped up in person school if they had not spent so much energy opposing safety measures. And now they're opposing them again. They are their own worse enemies for keeping schools open.

NP. You are weirdly obsessive about APE.

The Mike Silverman Facebook post is sobering and yes it definitely says ER visits and hospitalizations are up.

I am so tired of the stupid people who try to pretend this isn't real. Go put on a mask, order takeout and shut up.

Or do you know better than the local ER doc?

The conversation at my school has been the exact opposite. We’re ready to ditch them.

Huh. I guess I talk to more people at my school. Or they talk to me. I know the sentiment is very strong. Teachers feel pushed to their breaking points. There doesn't seem like much to keep any of us going in. We've already seen teachers leave with very little notice and they're getting jobs easily. The only people who intent to stay are those who absolutely have to. Everyone else has a backup plan in place or just intends to stop working.

That’s disappointing. Countless people have been pushed to limits during Covid. Wonder what would happen if all just abandoned and jumped ship.

I doubt you talk to more people. I’m very active. I attend Friday happy hours, I’m the building rep for our union, I talk with plenty of people. Yes people are stressed. Super tired. Perhaps it’s just a difference in staff make up, but there is no way anywhere near half of our staff would just up and quit. For example, many are too far vested into the retirement system to just up and quit. They can’t afford to give that up after working so many years. I haven’t seen any leave with little notice. A few ( a typical number) left at the end of the last school year due to family moves or retirement.

Where is your school? I’m curious about those who are leaving your school. Are they at opposite ends of their teaching careers? Are they the newer teachers and/or more senior teachers who are eligible or close to retirement? When they leave and get easily get jobs, where are they working?

Why does he not mention the age and comorbidities of such patients? It is simply misleading to not list such information, considering the incredible age skew of COVID complications.

He's also posted an article to the Bangladesh RCT study previously and said "masks work." LOL I guess he didn't read the study.

I'm sure they wouldn't be going to your house to begin with. We definitely don't do playdates with Branch COVIDians.

Anyone who has a birthday party that demands proof of vaccination or has some ridiculous message about making sure kids wear masks gets immediately denied.

Mike Silverman is a constant fear porn purveyor. How many of them were elderly? How many are obese?

Shouldn't he be tailoring his message to those most at risk, instead of the general population (who isn't listening to him)?
